Winchester Model 12
Posted last week about a Model 12 16 gauge shotgun I bought off GunBroker. After I cleaned and lubricated it thoroughly made a trip out to the country to fire it off. Well, found out when I loaded it I could only get 2 shells in the magazine tube. Took it home, popped off the magazine cap, took out the spring, and much to my surprise, found the original wooden 3-shot plug with the original paper Winchester wrapper still around it.

My dad had something similar in his Model 12 in 12 gauge.
He mostly hunted ducks and geese with his gun so had to plug it down to three shells total due to Federal migratory game bird rules.

I have a few of those. So far I've got one out of an M12 and a pair from a Model 11 and 11-48 Remington.
Not something I actively go after, really, but an interesting peripheral collection that doesn't cost anything.

Same here, just thought it was a nice bonus that came along with the gun. I'm not a collector of these kinds of items. Just something to put away so we can clean it out later!

That's a really neat find. Keep it with the gun it does add to the value slightly.

Can anyone post pics of high grade sporting M-12's? Pigeon or Skeet grade guns?

That was standard proceduer when I grew up in wisconsin. All our pumps were effectively 3 shots, and belive me the wardens checked them all the time. I have several plugs laying around here. I once had a winchester model 12 with two sets of barrels numbered to the gun. A long full choke and a short riot barrel set up.
