Default Does Colt use a "dash" system like S&W?

I want to buy my first Colt Python but of course I want to do some research first. I don't think Colt does a dash system, but how do they denote Model changes, etc. on their firearms?

How many different "series" of Pythons will I find?

Thanks.

No dash system. Colt revolvers are born perfect and never need improvement. I thought everyone knew that. (wink wink)

They did make changes to the guns over the years, such as the cylinder yoke retaining system. Plus variations in hammer, trigger, cylinder release, and front sights(checkering, grooves, smooth) too.

Pre-war Colts used a screw fastened yoke retainer, changed sometime postwar to a screw/spring/retainer system. Just running production changes that they probably kept track of with model serial numbers.
