Huh? Unless I'm tragically wrong, I think the company name is still officially Sturm, Ruger and Co.
After all. Colt was "short" for "Colt's Patent Firearms Manufactoring Company" back in the day.

You may be correct. The only reason I asked is because I vaguely remember their bird symbol having a "S" and a "R" in it. Now there is only the "R".

Some short time after Bill Ruger's death the S was omitted from the Ruger symbol.

Alex Sturm was the money side of the Sturm Ruger enterprize when it first got off the ground in the late 40's. Sturm died at an early age in 1951 (hepatitis I think). Bill Ruger changed the original company grip logo from a Red Eagle symbol to the now common Black Eagle in his memory. The company has always retained the 'Sturm, Ruger' name AFAIK, but is just commonly refered to as 'Ruger' as most everyones memory of the guy running it was Bill Ruger.

There was a note over and some fuss on the Ruger Forum last year about "Sturm" being dropped and it is Ruger only now.

I see their company website says only 'Ruger' now on the top line.
But then in tiny print at the very bottom:" Copyright © 2010 by Sturm, Ruger & Co., Inc."
Maybe one of those high powered business decisions to market the firearms by name recognition and keep the old company name the same.
Things change,,
Ruger folks got a name change,,Smith people got the lock..

yessir, just easier for them to answer the phone with "Good morning, Ruger...." than the entire old version....marketing image, all their designs, logos, etc are having ONLY the "Ruger" or the "R".........
(they got locks too, but they are hidden under the grip panels...)

Even though their ticker symbol is RGR, the listing remains Sturm, Ruger &Co Inc. Joe

I bought a mini 14 last year. I'm looking at the owners manual. It has RUGER MINI-14 RANCH RIFLE under the ruger red logo. Near the bottom it has STURM, RUGER & COMPANY, INC. That corp. name was still used last year.

I'm not a Ruger guy and don't know anything about the way the Ruger lock works but while reading this I thought of something. Has anyone heard of the Ruger lock engaging while shooting, like what we hear has happened with some of the S&Ws?

no Sir, not YET, but it is entirely a different 'set up' and to me less likely to 'fubar'................
and NO, I have not seen any guns yet, where the 'customer' cut out the hole in the right grip panel ,to insert the key provided.......

Do you suppose, if Mr. Sturm had lived, the guns would be called Sturms?
Mr. Harley had the money, and Mr. Davidson had the bike idea, but nobody rides a Davidson. Wonder if it would have worked the same with the guns?
