Got it, Winchester 9422, plus a Browning BL-22 (UPDATE: Winchester range report pics)
Gave up on finding a Winchester 9422 at gun shops or gun shows around here, in two years all I have found is an overpriced standard 9422 in .22 magnum, and I wanted one in .22 long rifle so I could afford to shoot it. Sold a couple of revolvers here on the forum, and wound up buying a 1977 vintage 9422 "XTRA" in .22 short, long and long rifle, off of Gun Broker. It is absolutely pristine, an early "XTRA" without checkering, but still has the high gloss metal and stock:
While I was at my dealers arranging for him to recieve the rifle, he pulled out a like new Browning BL-22, Grade II (1994 vintage) with the scroll engraving, he had just taken it in on consignment. Thought about it for a few days, figured I'd make a move on it as well. Picked it up yesterday, took it to the range today and found it very accurate and pleasant to shoot. Got a group less than 1" at 50 yards with CCI Standard Velocity ammunition:
On my way back from the range, my dealer called to say the 9422 had arrived, so picked it up on the way home. I'll take it to the range tomorrow, and provide a range report. It has one of the slickest actions of any rifle I have handled, it's heavier than a Henry .22 or the Browning BL-22, the sights are very similar to a Winchester Model 94, 30/30. I understand the mechanicals are the same as a Winchester Model 61 pump .22, which is a fine rifle in it's own right.
So, I've picked up a nice rack of .22 lever carbines, Browning, Henry, Winchester and Marlin "Mountie":
When the weather clears up, I'll do a head to head competition, see which one is the most accurate.
UPDATE: Winchester range report and Winchester VS Marlin competition follows below.....

Nice collection of .22 lever guns! I have a couple of .22 LR 9422s, and like them a lot. I purchased them right after Winchester announced they were discontinuing them - one to shoot, and one to keep in its original box for investment purposes. Here's my "shooter." Fun guns, for sure. The 9422 was well made, but expensive to manufacture. Today, they are history, more's the pity.

Canoeguy, I think the Browning has the "short-throw" action which allows cycling the lever with out dismounting from the shoulder, yes? What about the Winchester? Thanks for any info!

Rimfired,
Yes, the Browning has the "Short Throw" action, just flick your fingers and the rifle is re-loaded. It throws the brass in a neat pile several feet away, very precise.
Won't know much about the Winchester till tomorrow, I'll give a range report then. I do have a Model 61 which shoots great, and since they share the same mechanism, I expect great things from it.
Both of these rifles shout "Quality"! These are the kind of guns I'm buying from now on, proven quality.

That reminds me, I have a Winchester 9422 mag trapper I've never shot. I'm going to have to dig it out this spring and try it out.

Took the Winchester 9422 to the range today, what a sweet shooting rifle! Smooth action, excellent trigger, sights are a little coarse for fine work, but was able to make some nice groups, less than an inch at 25 yards. Was only able to stay at the range for a little over an hour as it was so cold, after a while my shooting started suffering, so I didn't get a chance to try it at 50 yards.
I did do a little competition with it against my 1955 vintage Marlin "Mountie" carbine, fired both rifles five shots at 25 yards from the prone position. The Winchester won by score, 40 to 37 (out of a possible 50 points), but group size was almost identical, about 1". Followed that up with shooting both rifles against a 6" steel swinging target, shooting offhand (standing). Found it easy to get 100% hits with both rifles. Here's some pics:
This steel was freshly painted before the shooting started:
Marlin "Mountie" and steel:
The Winchester is the smoothest and most accurate, but the Marlin would probably be the one I'd carry in the field or take canoeing. The Winchester is too nice, and the Marlin has already lived a hard life, a few more scratches or bruises would not be noticed...
