Default Colt DA revolver, bent mainspring

I remember in the 70's and 80's when Skeeter Skelton and others wrote home gunsmithing articles (also known as "the professional gunsmith's friend") about putting a bend in one leg of a Colt revolvers V-shaped mainspring for a better double-action pull. When I bought this early Three-Fifty-Seven in the last century, I assumed that's why this bend was there on this excellent condition gun:

I was cleaning it today, and thought I'd ask the experienced members here if they agreed with my opinion, or if I've gone around the "bend".

The V-spring has the typical bulge created by a screwdriver or something
similar inserted while cocking the piece. Usually if not too radical it does not affect reliability but does lower the pressure needed to pull the trigger.

Done it a number of times. Then sometime around the '90s or maybe a bit earlier, Colt started to put in thinner V-springs and the "need" no longer existed. Same occurred in their once very thick/heavy SAA hammer springs though some still wanted a lighter hammer pull.
