What's your favorite brush beater rifle?
This Browning 92 .44 Magnum is mine. Along with myRem. Model 81 in .300 Savage. I dragged it through some rough countryside and it's such a smooth little rifle. I obviously don't care about scratching it up. What's your favorite brush beater rifle?

For rough duty, I have a 1980's vintage Winchester "Ranger" 30/30, mine also has a sling, and a butt stock ammo carrier to carry ten extra rounds. It's fun to shoot, accurate out to 100 yards, and has enough dings on it I don't mind adding more.
For rough .22 duty, a Henry lever action, the model H001, the cheapest Henry .22 version. This is the rifle I carry in the canoe now, stuffed into a cheap ($40) Sportsman Guide scabbard.

Wyatt, I also have your browning 92 in .44 mag. I have a 94 30/30 I bought new around 1958, that overall I probley carried the most. (It has senioraty). I have quite a few other rifles, more costly and powerfull, but seem to use a ruger 77 in 7X57 I bought new years ago for half price. It is cheap, accurate, flat shooting and I dont stress if I nick it up. Also a win 88 in 308, but I havent had it all that long yet.

My brush beater is a 1973 Marlin 336RC in 35 Remington. It has been to hell and back and I'll take it back there when needed.

Talking heavy brush, close range? Mini 30 for me. I have a 150g Nosler Ballistic Tip homeload that works right nice in it.
This is my next piece. I've got a 2x EER scope to mount on it. It's on order, so as soon as the factory ships it, I can post pics. Here's an image.

.... ring and rail on that 45/70 !!!
I've never seen one set up like that. Do they make it in girley man calibers, you know for those of us that don't shoot 1/2 sticks of dynamite?
COOL rifle.

A Remington 870 12ga with a full-rifled barrel.
Shot a nice size doe last year who was "hiding" behind a 1" sapling. The doe fell over a moment before the tree did.

A 1942 M1 Garand with a scout mount and red dot sight.
Perfect balance, enouth power for anything, and very quick sighting with the red dot.
Not worried about dings, its been through 3 wars, nothing I can do will ever come close to that.

I've got one of these also. I don't know what year it was made, but probably 70s. With Leverevolution ammo it is a 2-3" gun (has a 4X weaver with flip-over mount so you can use the iron sights, too).

Remington 760 pump carbine: 18 inch barrel, 30-06 caliber, Weaver K2.5. I bought it when I came down on orders for Alaska, and it has two moose and four caribou to its credit. I think it's the perfect brush gun.

HAHAHA
Love that pic!
AFAIK, it's a limited production and only in 45/70. Be damn nice if it were available in other calibers too.

Frankly all my guns are meant to be used and not sit in a safe and look pretty,I actually hate guns like that.
That said over the past few months it's been this "little" bugger more and more...
Browning A-Bolt .375 H&H,it had a BOSS break on it and whatever else it's supposed to do,me being the nut I am got it chopped off! it's now an 18 1/2 inch carbine
When I tell people what it is they generally have this reaction

When things get nasty in deer season I leave my Ruger 77RL in .250 Savege home and take out my Mossberg 590 with the indestructible black finish and ghost ring peep sights.
I also have my brother's sporterized 1917 Enfield in .30-06 and a cut 1894 Swedish Mauser in 6.5 X 55 for bad weather deer hunting. Neither has been out in the woods for a while but I'm going to sight in the Swede next year just in case.

Caje, We think the same. I have a 70es Marlin 336 in .32 Winchester Special with a Williams peep sight.
I bought the gun years ago at the Cape gun show because it was factory drilled and tapped for the sight. Best brush gun I've ever owned.
PS. The temp. is 9, but the rain is gone.

Never used a brush rifle...
Always been a 1897 Winchester brush gun.
#1 buck from it always seemed to hit home.

My truck gun beater is a model M38 Mosin carbine with a scout-rifle forward mounted scope. Good medicine for critters with 2 or 4 legs.

If I were going to beat the brush...this is what I'd take. It's been "adjusted" to better fit the needs of the brush beater. A real tack driver out to 100 yards:

I never thought I would get into the black rifle thing, but it has been fun and accurate too.

In really rough weather, I grab the ol' 1969 Parkerized Ithaca Model 37 DSPS 12 gauge slug gun. Light, sturdy and easy to tote, it is a great brush gun too.
Any short barreled smooth bore slug gun that always groups three rifled slugs from the bench into 1 1/2" . . . well, I consider a shooter like this a rifle . . . albeit one with a heck of a "thump!
Best of all for me . . . note the rare Left Hand safety!!!
Rifle? It would have to be this 1973 Remington Model 700LH in .270. It shows the evidence of being enjoyed a lot as I've been up and down so many deer stands through the years. Topped with a Burris "Posi-lock;"

This is a 1895 winchester 30-40 src. It was built in 1931. When I bought the rifle close to 35 years ago it didnt have a rear sight. I had a old friend that had a windfield? Rear sight off a officers model springfield. We didnt have to drill, but the handguard wont fit over the longer sight. I wish I knew its history! Its fun to carry and use the real deal. It does the job.

Why did you have to show this? My grail rifle is a new 95 carbine in 30-06. Mainly for the cal. is I have a ton of 30-06 ammo. I always wanted a 95 and this one looks so Texas/Arizona Rangerish. You're very lucky.

For the past 30+ years my brush gun, and by that I mean obscured and short sight range and considerable bushwacking, has been an old Remington 600 in .308, that I got after my father passed on. Nice and light, short barreled, and packs a "wump".
Here lately I have been carrying my Sig 556 pistol with a holo sight for the same basic reasons, just not as much "wump," on either end.

Mine is a late 60s Marlin 336RC in .30-30. It loves the Hornady Leverevolution ammo.
It was my grandfather's brush rifle, my dad's brush rifle, and has been mine for the past 7 years or so. Been around the block several times, but still shoots like a dream.

Lever rifles seem to be well represented here, here's a pic of my Winchester "Ranger" 30/30, with SKS sling and butt stock ammo carrier:
This is the rifle that started my love of Winchester rifles, I had so much fun shooting and handloading for it, I had to have more.
Side by side with a 1949 vintage Model 94 in 30/30, original and unmolested. This one only gets to hunt on sunny, pleasant days, no dragging it through the brush:

Another fan of the Remington Model 600 in .308 Win. here. Mine's fitted with a Pachmayr pad and a Bushnell 1.5x4 scope and an aluminum trigger guard to replace the nylon one. A great, fast handling brush gun.

Over the years I have used several rifles as utility/foul weather guns.
A Winchester Trapper in 44 Mag, a Remington Mod 7 synthentic in 308, or 350 RM,
A Blaser R 93 Tracker in 308 or 375 H&H, or one of my most favorites an H&K 91 in 308...

I too have a Winchester Ranger that was a 30-30 but now is a 30-30 Ackley Improved. It sports peep sights, a sling and is mounted in a ballistic nylon stock and handguard. It is reasonably accurate easily shooting 'minute of angle of deer'. My total outlay is less than $300. It has been all over the US of A as it was permanently mounted just behind the rear seat of my pickup. It is now in pieces being readied for a "Duracoat" paint job. ........... Big Cholla

A Winchester Model 1886 .45-90 that has been shortened to a barrel length of 22 inches. Photo was taken a few years ago when I had darker hair and more of it.

Ole Sparky
My custom built .54 Hawken flintlock is my favorite "close up" rifle. When it comes to one of those fancy, rear loading brass flingers, I like my 1895 Marlin in .45/70 or the .45 Henry Big Boy...Of, course a big, sharp bowie can bust something in the brush too if you don't mind smellin their breath.

I've seemed to accumulate several 'in-close' numbers over the years:
H&R Handi-Rifle in .500 S&W
