The Marlin Model 9, 9mm Carbine.
I thought these were neat when they first came out. Whats not to like? $200, 9mm, looks like a Marlin .22 carbine.
All these years later and I finally got one. At TWICE the price.
I got it home and stripped it down and found it was virtually unfired!
I took it to the range Monday and found the sad truth. I should have bought one of these 20 years ago! This thing is FUN!
I also found my old eyes and open sights don't get along any more. So it's mounts and rings and that old Redfield Bearcat scope w/ the post & crosshair reticle.
Well,you may ask. How does it shoot? Off a rest at 25 yds it makes the nicest little cloverleafs you ever saw! 3 rounds touching.
All this has a downside. I have to get some S&W 59 magazines and a heaver recoil spring and buffer. But I knew that before I bought it.
All in all it's great fun. After i study the design some I think I can do something about the heavy trigger pull.

Both the Marlin and the Ruger version of these rifles are amazing fun. I am at a loss as to why they didn't sell better.

Wanted to get one of these, but harder to find than hen's teeth, and as expensive as gold teeth. Settled for a KelTec folding 9mm carbine instead (forget the model #).

I sold mine about 3 years ago,and it was stainless.It was a nice rifle and fun to shoot, just too heavy for its size.

The Camp Carbines are great little rifles. I have one of the Ruger PC9s, it's a dept trade-in I bought from Kiesler's, great little rifle. I keep it in the closet by the door where it's handy for going out in the back field or throwing in the truck.

Hey Pilgrim! When I bought my rifle they sent two mags with it but one is a S&W mag someone labeled "Marlin". PM me your address and if I can find it I'll sent it to you.

I have always wanted one of those. Saw one at a pawn shop some time ago but he want $800 for it!

I found this .45 Camp Carbine at a pawn shop lurking amidst some 9mm carbines that had been traded in by the Twin Falls PD when they went to Mini-14s.

Some previous owner had stripped the stock and stained it green. It was so hideous I just painted over it. I meant to change it to something else later, but the grey look has kind of grown on me.

I got it cheap - around $350 if I remember right - because the previous owner said it jammed all the time.

He was right - it did. Even with hardball it wouldn't shoot three rounds in a row.

I did a little research and found that the spring loaded feed ramp would get trapped in the wrong position if the rifle was reassembled incorrectly. I took it apart, put it back together right, and it's worked flawlessly since.

It does get hellaciously dirty, and is no fun to clean. I replaced the recoil spring with a heavier one, and I guess I should replace the recoil buffer, too.

It uses 1911 mags and is ridiculously fun to shoot.

I agree, these things are FUN ! I had been without a Camp 9 for some time. I came across a model 9N, the brushed nickel version, in mint condition a few months ago. I replaced the buffer and installed a Wolff 21# recoil spring. This, and at least two previous Camp 9s, function 100% with the lightest to heaviest 9MM ammo using the 21# spring. I had a cheap BSA red dot sight I was not using, so I mounted it on my Camp 9. I can't really say what the Camp 9, or .45, are practical for, but I sure enjoy mine. I have found that, with an optical sight, for my old eyes, these things will shoot little tiny groups at 50 yards from a rest. I've done fair bit of chronographing of different 9MM ammo fired in the Camp 9 since, according to my old notes, 1985. Some 9MM ammo gets up to some very interesting velocities and energy in this little plinker. These things are starting to get a little scarce around here, so I'm going to hang on to this one. Enjoy!

Just to let you know, this ain't my first Rodeo.
This is my Navy Arms .357 Rolling Block. It's a tack driver, scope or peep. I wish I still had the Browning '92 or even the Marlin 1894.

Oooh, love the little Rolling Block. I've had my eye out for one of the Uberti .357mag Baby Rolling Blocks for a while but they're scarce as hen's teeth.

I have one of the Marlin Camp 9's with the fancy stock that I paid a whopping $350.00 for about 15 years ago.

After buying it, I went out to sight it in and it was spot on at 50 yards right out of the box. I put about 200 rounds through it with zero malfunctions and it is a blast to shoot!

I knew right then I would never sell it and I still have it and I am glad I do.

Why these fun little guns never sold well still has me scratching my head!

Mainly because at the time, the S&W 59 was my grab-n-go gun.

When I upgraded to Glock G22's the 59 and the Marlin Camp 9 were surplused...

So I bought one of the Ruger PC40 Carbines under the mistaken impression that it could be easily converted to take G22 mags... wrong.

Another thing was that a weaplight could only be mounted with some goofy barrel clamp or by screwing a picatinny into the birch stock. No thanks....

Anyway, beyond plinking chipmunks off the porch, it's tough to take either gun seriously ... shot well enough, especially with a red dot, but If I'm gonna drag around a long gun, I wanted something of a heavier caliber... Magazine interchangeability is over rated anyway....once you have a drum.... I went to the Bushmaster XM15ES2 and life is good.

(Think I need some camo paint? )



Now if Marlin had made the .45 Camp to accept the early and excellent steel bottomed Paraord P14 Mags (their later plastic based mags are junk) I could have been really hot and bothered...

I ordered a recoil spring & buffer combo from Blackjack Buffers on Tuesday and received it on Friday. The combo consisted of a #21 Wolff spring and a blue plastic buffer guaranteed for 5000 rds. The parts work great, the service was good, price OK, but it also came with 42 lbs. of spam E-mail. I'm still shoveling.
I installed the parts and took it to the range today. The carbine functions with ANYTHING that I could stuff in the mag!
I had mounted a 1960 Redfield Bearcub 2 3/4 X scope with a post & crosshair reticale. I've had this scope for years and think it's the best for fast work out to 100yds.
Here is an average example. Winc. WB 147 gr. JHP, 5 rds. at 25 yds. others a little better.

Those .45 Camp Carbines are bringing absolutely astronomic prices around here when they show up. I've wanted one as I have a few of the old Taylor 25rd 1911 drum mags.
