Default Manuhrin MR-73 Needs Reblued

I picked up this old police issue MR-73 at a gun show awhile ago and I am absolutely in love with the way it shoots and the action is so incredibly smooth it's unreal, however the finish is totally wrecked and I want to have it reblued(I know it hurts the value but I'm not selling it so it doesn't matter) and I am just wondering if anybody knows a company that does an excellent job at it. I want that deep shiny blue to make it look like it should.

There is no way I would refinish that revolver. Use it as it is and enjoy it. It is well maintained, and its wear is from honest real-life LE work.

I agree with Shawn; a few months ago I picked up the M&P shown; a 5 screw. It locks up tight and the bore is pefect but the finish is pretty bad. I wanted to refinish it, but when I put pix on the forum, the majority was against it; it had lived for many years in that holster, some of them hot years considering the sweat marks on the gun and holster, and had been shot little. I thought about it a while, and decided they were right; that's the mark of honest use and should be preserved.

I really envy you that Manurhin; they're very smooth. I'd like to find one of the guns with adjustable sights, or impossible dream, one of the target guns in 32 S&W Long, for Olympic style shooting.

I like the way it looks now also, but if you want to have it refinished, I have had outstanding results from George Roghaar at gunblue.homestead.com. He is located in Boca Raton, FL.

What is most important is that you do whatever you want with the gun. If re-bluing floats your boat, go for it.

There was a similar thread/question some months back about a finish-worn Model 58 that had belonged to a LEO family member. One poster chimed in, saying it would still be the gun carried by the family member, even if refinished. This is how I look at it. Up to you.

I just bought a 4" MR 73 a few months ago from Allen's Armory with adjustable sights. Haven't shot it much but adjusted the trig to a light smooth pull in Double action. If you search these guns and see pic of them new, they have a deep shiny blue on them. Mine is well worn but I also would like to re-blue mine to enjoy the look of a new one. For what the real nice ones sell for, I'd have a lot less in mine. If I were to sell it, I should get my money back easily. They sell for over 2 grand in great condition. It's one of the best and strongest revolvers made in the world. Anyone know what the cost is to re- blue a revolver? I believe Gun Parts Corp has new grips for them. Allen's Armory still has more of them foe sale, Larry
