Default Nikon Rifle Scope for rimfire?

I have an opportunity to get a good price on a Nikon scope. I need a scope for a Wal-Mart/Ruger 10/22 rifle that I haven't shot yet.

Anybody here familiar with the Nikon line?

What would be the right scope to get for general use...target/plinking/small game? I think they have 2x7 and 3x9.

You really can't go wrong with a Nikon. They make good scopes.

any of the nikon's are decent scopes from the 20 dollar ones up. i had one on my deer rifle (monarch) and it was comparable to my leupold. prostaffs are good, if you are looking for a good nikon.......ProStaff 4x32 Rimfire Classic Matte Nikoplex from Nikon veery very good scope. i recommend it 100%

Nikon quality rivals Leupold, Burris, Redfield, or any other general line scope in their price range (or above). Be sure you get one that has an adjustable objective as most have parallax set for CenterFire for 100 yards and beyond. A RimFire scope needs to be set at about 50 yards or less. I'm not sure if Nikon makes a dedicated RimFire scope.

I suppose it’s argumentative but I would think a 2 X 7 is the most that you would need, except for benchrest. You certainly want a rimfire specific scope for the reasons outlined by H Richard.
I took a quick look at the Nikon sight and did not see any rimfire specific scopes, they may be there but I didn’t see them.
For my use a 1 X 4 would be ideal. I had an old 2 X on a 10/22 and it was fine.

I have a fixed 4X32 Nikoplex on my 10/22. Hard to beat for the money and lifetime guaranteed to boot.

sigp220.45,

Is that the 4x32 rimfire model Nikon? I think that's the one I'm leaning towards.

Nice looking Sporter. I think that I remember you posting about it when you got it...same gun?

I posted about the gun when I got it. The scope is a 4x32, probably the same model you're looking at. It was under a hundred bucks online, not sure where.

Its a good scope - very clear and it was easy to sight in.

I have a Nikon 4.5-14x on my Savage MKII BV back yard "sniper" rifle, probably more than you're looking for but a very nice scope for the money. Nikon optics are top notch for the price ranges they sell in. I use a pair of Nikon 16x50 binoculars for work and they're great too.

For all-around use on a .22 it's hard to go wrong with a nice 4x.

I've got the ProStaff 3-9x40 on my Savage MkII and on MrsZ's 10/22 ... it may be a 100yd parallax, but I've had no issues getting good groups from it at any reasonable range. It's about a $150-160 scope most places, and I'd recommend it to anyone.

buy it on eBay, you'll save much money that way.

There is a new one on there right now as a Buy-it-now going for $92 w/free shipping, and there is another new one with the bids at $56 right now with about 20 minutes to go.

I bought a Nikon Monarch on there a couple weeks ago at an incredible price. It is the Monarch 3x12x42 SF model, and I won the auction for the price of $265 shipped. They go elsewhere upwards of $400 retail, sub-$400 if you scour the internet hard.

WOW, gr8AmericanBash. That's an outstanding price on a Nikon Monarch. I have the Monarch in 6.5-20X, but the older model with front parallax Adj. It was over $400 dealer back 6 years ago.

I had a shotgun scope on my 375 H&H, the paralex is set for 50 or 75 yards. It is very clear at 25 yards. It is a Leupold. I've considered putting it on a 22. I have 2 Nikon's on Centerfire rifles, I like them very much.
