I think the Ruger 1A1 is maybe the most handsome rifle ever built. The 7x57 is also my most favorite rifle caliber.
I like that engraving. Did it come that way from Ruger?
Be careful with #1s. They can become addictive.

Nice one. I'm contemplating rebarreling by #1B from .25-06 to .338-06. I used to be a fan of the .25-06 but not so much any more.

WOW
Is that a stock grade wood? It looks fantastic. Maybe since it is engraved, it is a higher grade gun. Very nice.

That is a very nice rifle. Ruger #1's are a classy rifle. I have a heavy barrel in 6mm Rem.

I love #1's I have owned several 375 H&H's and find it is the best platform for a large mag caliber. I spent 3 years trying to trade for a #1 S in 218 Bee (less than 500 made) and finally got it...may try to take pics later.

I have the "little brother", the No. 3 in .223.
Just a real nice rifle. I've had it since 1980 and would never part with it.

I was told by a family member of the gentleman (he's passed away) that this was the way the No.1 came from Ruger in 1977.He had a friend who worked for Ruger so he was able to get a upgrade on the wood.I don't know any of this for a fact and would hate to mislead anybody. I just feel lucky to own such a beautiful No.1

The No. 1s come with some pretty nice wood on them, or at least they used to. I have three, a .22 Hornet, a 22-250 and a 7 mag and love them all. I wish I had a .257 Roberts, a 7x57 and a 30-06, but not until I win the lottery. Nice rifle.

Hi Patrick-
Thanks for the compliment, but yours is simply stunning; one of the nicest No 1s I've seen. Gonna shoot it?

That wood is stunning. I have a #1 in .458, and a #3 in 45/70, they are my favorite rifles. Of course the .458 has a somewhat limited application except for big bear. But it is fun to shoot, more fun to let someone else shoot.

I had one for years. Sold it to my ranch manager, I sprain myself quite often trying to kick myself in the butt for pure stupidity.

Patrick, I have a Ruger 77 bolt rifle in .30-06 that is from that same vintage....77-79. I think the quality during that period was absolutely first rate. Mine was not a "select" grade or anything like that, just right out of the box, but it is excellent looking.
