Default Engraved Colt Python Question

A friend of mine inherited this Python. I tried my best to steal it from him but he was smart

Any idea what the value of this would be? The box looks to be in real good shape and all the paperwork is there. I searched online but didn't find any other B grade guns to compare it to. I forwarded him a link to the Colt forum but wanted to see if anybody here has an idea.

Seeing this has rekindled my desire to find a nice shooter grade 4inch that I can afford. I really like my Smith's but there is just something special about a Python. I never should have let mine get away.

I am not a Colt expert by any means but I would venture a guess of AT LEAST $2,500. Considering a run of the mill Python in my area is $1,000-1,200. If the engraver can be documented and is of any note it would probably command more. Just my Wild --- Guess. Someone more knowledgeable will weigh in, I'm sure.

colt engraving during that time was classed as a-d. with a being the least and d being the most. it would be worth a letter to find out who did the engraving on this gun. if it is one of the big names, it will be worth more than the average work. colt letters are priced by the amount of features on the guns, hence an engraved gun letter will cost more than a standard gun letter. figure on $100 plus for this letter and several months of waiting time unless you know someone in the colt collectors. they get letters much faster than regular people. good luck. looks real nice. to bad it won't be shot, they are fabulous.
