Worlds biggest Shooting-Competition. Pic-Heavy - not for 56K-modems
All five years starts in Switzerland the Federal Shooting-contest.
All swiss-licensed shooters can compete in many different target-matches. With rimfire-rifles and pistols, centerfire-sportrifles,
army-rifles, centerfire army-pistols, like the SIG 210, SIG 220, the 1929 Parabellum. The organisation expecting ca. 40'000
swiss-licensed shooters. They come from all over the world for this event. The South-African-Swiss group won this year the "ExileSwiss-contest".
You wanna see some pics and videos? What....??? I can't hear you!!
OK, we got 4 votes for yes and O for no. Here's a report about this event and if you follow my tracks, you will get an idea how this big thing is organized.
So let's start. Please excuse the pic-quality. New camera - old guy. Not the best combination .
check out this video. The gunsmith knocks light on the table and the trigger with the calibrating-weight goes off.
Click at the white field to see the video. Loadingtime is ca. 20 seconds. The rifle is one of the first serie that SIG made.
Finally we stand in front of the shooting-range. Click at the picture to see the video. Loadingtime ca. 10 seconds.
Well, that's all folks. I've made the 5-stage-medal with the rifle and the 3-stage-medal with the SIG-210. It's OK for me,
but the pistolresults were under my personal skills.

YES! PICS PLEASE!
How come there's no snow
Always pictured Switzerland as this wonderful place with beautiful blonds eating chocolate in the snow.
Could it be that Gore was right?

ARRRRGGGGGH! Why don't we have something like that here (in addition to Camp Perry)
I'd watch this on TV before ANYTHING else.
The Swiss...God bless 'em, each and every one. They've got it right!

I cant even compare our Govt.'s support of firearm marksmanship to the backing the Swiss give their people.

Except for the National Matches, there isn't anything I've seen in the States that comes close. For the average American shooter, a match like that would be a once in a lifetime experience. You get to do it every year .
Thanks for taking the time to do the post.

Does the event run for only 1 day or for several days? I can't imagine setting up something that size for just 1 day!
That is truly amazing. Thanks so much for sharing.

I'm truly impressed, what a great country.
I had a friend who was a dentist who lived there for several
years, but could not obtain citizenship.
The USofA need that countries attitude toward guns and Texas attitud toward self defense.

Myron, this event lasts for four weeks. The whole installation
will be disassembled after the next weekend. Remember,
we need to "push" 40'000 shooters trough this tents in Rupperswil. All the
pistol, rimfire, and many rifle-competitions must be done in the traditional
shooting-ranges from Lenzburg, Suhr and Buchs.

It is nearly the attendance of the NRA show!!!
It makes Camp Perry look like a cookout in comparison.
Maybe I didn't understand it, but are all Swiss citizens that are part of the national defense required to go to this shoot?

Swissman,
Thank you so much for sharing. I am so jealous. What a wonderful facility and even more important, what a wonderful attitude of your countrymen, and I presume countrywomen.

Thanks again for sharing! A 4 week event seems about right for that number of participants.
I drove through part of your country in 1968, but in too much of a hurry to see much. What I did see was very beautiful.

Andy Griffith, this isn't the annual "must" that all active soldier has to shoot.
This is a competition which is organized from the Swiss-Shooting-Organisation. All you need is a Swiss shooting-license and the will to spend at least US$ 60.-- for
the event plus traveling-costs. The guy with the medal in this report, payed for his shooting-booklet and all the stages ca. US$ 600.--. I think that the average
money that a shooter pays, will be ca. US$ 120.-- (plus traveling and food)= US$ 280.--. But if one, like me, shoot rifle and pistol, it will cost another US$ 100.--
This event would not be possible without the help of the Swiss-Army and the *Civil-defense. (*Young people who don't want to make the army-service with a gun, or retired soldiers)

This is fascinating, like all Swissman posts!
But, you have confused the English word, "prizes" with "prices." Prices are what something costs. Prizes are what things you win.
Thanks so much for the wonderful story and photos.

It's sort of like the State Fair meets Camp Perry --- WOW. I wish the US would hold an event like this. I might need to move there when I retire.

Sunday is the final!
The following link shows you the statistic about this great event.
42302 shooters until this saturday evening.
Shoot Hammer
Tomorrow sunday is a 40 minute long live-report at the TV station "SF zwei" at 5:35 pm Swiss-time, about the 300 meter
final. Maybe you'll find a internet-page that will show Swiss-TV.

Swissman, thanks for taking the time to post those great photos! I was most impressed with the great organization that went into putting the event on and also the use of electronics in target scoring.

What an amazing range! Would it be possible for an American to shoot there? I have several K-31's and they shoot very, very well! I've never shot them at 300 m though!

The short-distance-results of the finals are here!
50 meter rimfire-competition:
The winner Lorenz Holenstein, won with the last shot the 50-meter-competition against the winner from 2005.
25 meter rimfire-competition:
The Winner Christan Klauenboesch won with the maximum the 25-meter-competition. And this guy is only 17 years old! He won in this final against an ex-worldchampion, and another
very experienced shooter, who won many national and international matches.
