Default 1911 century mark

Does anyone here know if colt is doing something besides just the gaudy limited edition safe queens for the 100th aniversary of the 1911? I had read that all colt pistols in 2011 will get a special roll mark or something, but I can't confirm this anywhere. I realize this is the S&W forum, but a fine gun is a fine gun and my safe is color blind

Last week I picked up a Guns & Ammo magazine from the news stand. It is titled--The Complete Book of the 1911--The Centennial Edition. It has some anniversary models in it.

Yeah thats where I got this from actually. But I want to know if the working guns are going to have anything to commemorate the 100th aniversary. I don't want one of those safe queen type guns in my stable lol.

No, Colt is going to continue doing what it has done for the past 15 years in lieu of actually designing and manufacturing a new handgun. They've almost run out of guns to discontinue, so they add a new rollmark or finish to the Government Model or SAA.

Be that as it may, I hope they add a roll mark to the regular pistols. My plan is get 2 and mail one to Novak's and make a serious fighting gun out of it and hold on to the other one for a later project or maybe to give to a child down the line.

I didn't think about it til this afternoon, but you're right. Since I've been shooting and carrying guns all colt has done with their line up is discontinue models and make "limited editions" for various distributors to try to drive up collector demand.

Whatever they do, it will be terribly overpriced by an outlandish and obscene margin, which in turn will not entice me to part with my hard earned cash.

I have almost, but not quite yet decided to get one of the WW1 remakes. I've been looking for one used so the price is shaved to a point more wallet compatible.

I don't own safe queens lol. I won't buy a collectors model of something just to stare at. I want a working gun if I'm going to part with my hard earned money.

I would love it if Colt would release an special edition from their custom shop that had the money put into functionality instead of frills and cosmetics. First class accuracy and function, that someone could shoot 50 yards at a bullseye match right out of the box without having a gunsmith tweak it first. Of course without Series 80 junk.

All Colt 1911s manufactured in 2011 (except for the Anniversary models) will have a "100 years of service" rollmark. The ANVIII model is a continuation of the WWI 01918 model (no gold plating). It will be marked with all the WWI repro markings except the "MODEL 1911 US ARMY" will be "MODEL OF 1911-2011". On the left side will be "ADOPTED MARCH 29, 1911 UNITED STATES ARMY". MSRP price is, I think, 1150.00. Guns can be ordered in November.

Boy I think a series 70 with a special 100th anniversary roll mark would look pretty sharp in a nice, well carved holster. Might have found my xmas gift to me.
