Ive had these 2 knives since I was like 10 and was wondering what one of them is. I know one is a butterfly knife, but the silver one is...?

Hm, interesting. Ive had the knife for 20+ years, same as the other one. Id like to get the butterfly knife re-done, only because it was mine as a kid.

United Cutlery Paratroop knife. Been made forever in China/Taiwan. Ten dollars and up. Everyone had one as a kid, lol. Used to see them sold in ads in gun mags.

Nice, figured it was a cheap knock off of something. I think I have spoons sharper than the knife haha.

I have an old paratrooper knife I keep in my truck. It's a good, solid knife to have and one I don't mind keeping in my glove box for years.

Some were made in Germany, both during and after the war. These usually had decent blades, though don't seem to have been official issue. (The "real" WW2 and later German para knife was a gravity knife.)
They can be useful, and the inexpensive similar Chinese made knives of the "Powerglide" series stamped with the S&W logo are probably among the more useful of recent inexpensive renditions.

For reference see Pantographic knife - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The quality of the stainless steel used on the Chinese/Taiwanese copies has varied over the years. Some people have reheated the knives and gotten them to take a better edge, others have just stuck the things in electric knife sharpeners and worked something "stabby" out.

I don't know why no one has really picked up and made a good quality one in years, save for the "eh, it's okay" SW Chicom offerings. Maybe because so many of the cheap ones are out there that most people don't remember, or have never seen, the German made ones.
