Rossi 92 Issue
We bought a Rossi 92 in .357Mag/.38Spl to compliment our .357Mag/.38Spl revolvers. We're don't hunt anything other than bullseyes these days, but being senior citizens and not able to carry what we used to be able to, we thought it would be a good idea to have a long gun that takes the same ammo as the short guns we keep in our SHTF bags. My wife loves the Carbine length Rossi and shoots it well, but I have trouble with it because the stock is quite a bit too short for me.
I’ve been trying to figure out how to lengthen the pull for me without ruining it for her and not coming up with anything that can be switched back and forth fairly quickly and without tools. Now I’ve noticed that over in the thread titled “Best Rifle Revolver Combo” feralmerril and BarbC have posted pictures of rifles with lace on boots, recoil pads, or whatever they are called. This may be the answer.
My questions: What are they called? Who makes them? Where do you get them?
Thanks in advance for the info,
John

Here ya go again johnnie. I like them. They both soak up recoil, give you a longer length of pull, protect that part of the stock, can switch them around and dont alter what you have!

Limbsaver makes a real nice slip on pad. Some Walmarts carry them under the Winchester name same thing, much cheaper.

You need the SMALLEST you can get! Belive me, I went through about 3 various makes and took them back untill I got these, and they fit a little lose! You can tape cloth or whatever to make them a little tighter. I havent but should/will. I tried that kick killer and that was too big for the puma,s too! In fact I had tried all shown and they all were too big and the ones I bought were the best so far but still a little loose, but I can live with it if you put some material inside the pad.

Thanks for the URL.
It's interesting to note that the X-Small is shorter (-0.6"), but wider (+0.12) than the Small, so it's time to get the calipers out and accurately measure the Rossi's stock.
Looks like I might be able to add another inch or two to the length of pull by inserting spacers made of a suitable material inside the boot. In fact, moving the lace-up boot further back on the stock with spacers inside might even make it fit better. If not, my wife's has a room full of sewing supplies, so I'm sure I'll be able to find the right stuff to line it with.

One other thought. You didnt mention which rossi you have. Carbine, rifle or short rifle? Might make a difference. I am a big guy and take 36 or 37" sleeve lengths. I wish I had bought the short rifle, but got what was available. While slightly loose I can live with mine as is.

IIMC, it is a R92-56018 (Carbine - 16" Round Barrel)
I'm also a big guy with long arms (and huge hands), but I didn't have any problems shooting Expert with a M2 Carbine when I was in the Air Force, so I didn't even think of LOP until I took it to the range. By then, my wife had fired it and fallen in love with it, so it was too late to do anything about it.
I'm not into long guns, so this might be a stupid question, but do the Rifle and Short-Rifle versions of the R92 have a longer LOP? If so, I might be better off buying one of those (Never waste a good reason to buy another gun ) The main reason I picked a 16" barrel is because I dislike barrel heavy guns, especially handguns.

I am not certain, but I belive they do overall depending on model and maker. There are about 4 various manufactors out there building copy versions of the 92. I have the browning 92 in .44 mag, my rossi is in .357. I know uberti makes versions for companys like cimmeron etc. Many times those retailers have them made to their specks too. I also have owned several original winchesters. I have quite a few various levers, and for instance my original winchester 64 rifle is a little longer in the stock as my original 94. They both have the same receiver but zthe 64 has a pistol grip grip, longer barrel and shorter magazine.
My dad was almost a giant for his generation, 6ft 5"s and 37" sleeves and he put a pad on every long gun he had, even if it was a sawed block of wood!
Personnaly, even though I am big, I like a light rifle but long length of pull. Here is a picture of a original winchester 64 30-30 I own from 1952 that I discribed, same as a 94 carbine but longer.

I don't know about different length of pull, but the rifles have a different stock style.
1892 Model - Cimarron Firearms
See how, on the carbine, the top and bottom points of the curve are almost in the same plane, while with the rifle (both the regular one and the short rifle) the bottom point extends much further to the rear. The belly of the curve is deeper on the rifles, also.
edit: Just went and put a measuring tape on a few guns. Four Rossi 92 carbines and a Winchester 92 rifle (don't have any Rossi rifles). From the trigger to the center of the curve of the stock, the rifle was 13 inches, one carbine was 13, two were 12 3/4 and one was 12 1/2 inches (the shortest was both a 357, and my oldest Rossi - mid 90s - so maybe stocks are longer nowadays).
Based on that, I'd say that if it is longer, it's not very much.
