I Just Brought Home This Factory Two-Tone Colt SAA .44 Special
In the early 80's when Colt suposedly ended production of the Colt SAA they had 482 left over nickle .44 Special cylinders so they popped them into some standard single actions. The cylinder and hard rubber grips are numbered to the guns. The scarcity hasn't made this gun all that sought over yet, but someday, who knows. I'm gonna shoot the **** out of it. These elks are from a guy in Orion, Il.
(I think it's Il.) on GB. He's good.

Very neat gun and I bet it will shoot great with .428 bullets! That's what my 3rd Gen .44 Special loves!

I DO love a pretty case hardned colt. I almost bought a "casehardened" ruger years back-glad I didn't. Saw one a few weeks ago with a good bit of wear and that casehardening finish wears dowen to a nasty grey.

That caliber is one of my favorites also. I got a pair of these 5.5 inchers that I shoot.

The holster is an odd story. A guy in Cheyenne, WY had some connection to the original F A Meana family and when the book Packing Iron came out there was a flyer inside it that advertised new made F A Meana holsters and belts. I contacted them and discussed holsters and they sent me their catalog. Ordered one for a 4 3/4 inch Colt, they were reasonably priced at $90 each, along with a money belt, this was in about 1998 or so. Later I purchased one for a 5 1/2 inch Colt. Then I purchased a pair, left and right, for Ruger Vaqueros.
In 2000 I was in Cheyenne and stopped in to see the guy who owned the "name". He and his family owned an art gallery there. Just around the corner from the art gallery was the leather shop where they were making the holsters and such. I visited with them a little and purchased a little business card holder. So I've got those pieces and use all of them. A couple years later they went out of business, at least for the leather goods.
Here I'm totin' a 4 3/4 inch 45 SAA on a mountain lion hunt in Arizona in one of these holsters.

You have a very authentic look there. I hope for hunting you were using a Sharps or Winchester and not a .270! Or did you use the Colt?

The only thing I took on the hunt was the Colt.
