It depends on how it's mounted and what sights you have on the gun. My AR pistols run red dots that are mounted in such a way that they co-witness the back-up iron sights - worse come to worse, you pop up the irons and keep chugging. However, the great Burris Fastfire II optic on my .22 pistol is solid mounted but completely blocks the iron sights. If it should take a dump (which doesn't seem likely as I've used it for years with no issues, but things do break), I'd need to remove it to use the irons. That would take a couple minutes.
But it's common these days to add suppressor-height sights to pistols that are cut for and run red dots, because then you've got something that's not blocked off by your optic. I saw SCCY had announced a pre-cut frame on that (as-yet vaporware) model but haven't paid any attention to the height of the regular irons.
