So a good friend and someone that's a life long firearm owner and shooter ( in 50s) so we both have miles lol. He has many different firearms from Glocks to Smith's to Smith's to Sccy . I actually shot his sky at range in past and found it to be fine . He carries a Glock 19 or his sky 9 allot. He's showing me Sccy coming out with DVG1 RD very soon . Most likely March. Interesting I don't own anything thing in the red Dot optic and thinking I would like to have maybe a red Dot optic. He just put one on his 19 with new slide trigger and such. Does the work him self. Let me say I myself really not looking for another 9mm . I carry LC9 when carrying a 9 . I have since retired last five years been carrying my Smith 40 C it just works for me. But back to red Dot . Looking at this option with Sccy and cost affordable with red Dot built on gun I may at some point buy one. My question to those that have red dot. Any problems with them and how do they seem to last. My friend will most likey get a Sccy red dot soon. Let's not make it a sky issue .I have many makes other than Smith all have been flawless other than Xds. And yes even have flawless Keltecs . My point is on this or any red Dot optic are you hosed if optic takes a dump . Let me say as you can guess I have not done any homework on red dot yet lol. So let's hear from dots lol

It depends on how it's mounted and what sights you have on the gun. My AR pistols run red dots that are mounted in such a way that they co-witness the back-up iron sights - worse come to worse, you pop up the irons and keep chugging. However, the great Burris Fastfire II optic on my .22 pistol is solid mounted but completely blocks the iron sights. If it should take a dump (which doesn't seem likely as I've used it for years with no issues, but things do break), I'd need to remove it to use the irons. That would take a couple minutes.

But it's common these days to add suppressor-height sights to pistols that are cut for and run red dots, because then you've got something that's not blocked off by your optic. I saw SCCY had announced a pre-cut frame on that (as-yet vaporware) model but haven't paid any attention to the height of the regular irons.

I find that some red dots are hard to pick up, so I opted for a Holosun with a green circle and middle dot. I have that on my M&P, PC slide. It came with surpressor hight sights and co-witnesses nicely. You might want to put some more research into what optic is best for you. YMMV.
