Default Colt Python Question

I saw a nickel Python 6" today and the asking price was $1200. It is in pristine condition and I was wondering if anyone knew if that was a good price - it seems high to me but thing cost more in the DC area.

In pristine condition that would actually be about right.

That price sounds about right, if a Python is worth that much to you. I had 3 Pythons but sold them when people started offering to buy them for several times what I had in them. They just were not worth that much to me. Don't get me wrong, they are great guns. They just did not do anything for me that made me want to keep them.

Around here, that price would be at the low end of the range for a pristine 6" nickel Python, even in the lower portion of the range for a blue Python.

Depending on the vintage that would be cheap.

Old Cop, if "pristine and hopefully a box to boot, that would be a very GOOD deal around here...seen them lots more than that ,though they are 'down' a bit from a few months ago, and MORE of them around also, coming out of the closet??

That's a good price. Make sure the timing is OK. It's not just how they look.

If the timing is off, that is not a deal-killer. Just a trip to Colt, and they'll have it right for you at a very nominal charge (usually about $87 including return shipping). Of course, instead of just having Colt repair and re-time (really makes them function like new), there is always the option of having them do a factory custom tune on the action ($190 plus $30 return shipping), and man, is that nice!

I've had a non-pristine 4" nickle Python these past 30 years that I wouldn't take anywhere near that low of an offer.

Thanks so much everyone for your timely response. I'm still debating, but will probably give this a pass only b/c the gun is not worth that to me. When I buy I want a shooter and this is just too pretty.

Pythons are the Ferrari's of the revolver world. But a Korth is the Mclaren F1!
