Default Crete and KIA German parstroopers

I came across a very interesting web site while researching the German invasion of Crete . It has 'site pictures' of the re-burial of the 4545 German war dead. Most of whom were German paratroopers killed around May20th 1941. Some very somber pictures. They also have every Germans name, date of birth, and when he died.

If you have an interest in that campaign you may be interested in "Hitler's Paratrooper , The Life and Battles of Rudolf Witzig" by Gilberto Villahermosa
available from Amazon and from Helion Books.

Default German War Casualties

My daughter in laws grandad was captured by Soviet allied troops-he was fortunate to survive.
On a main autobahn going into Illesheim Germany there's a German helmet on a concrete post by the roadway-a grim reminder.
The Netherlands formed an SS Division comprising some 14000 men-while stationed there I never met one of these veterans. Vanished.

Crete was the "death" of the German airborne. They where never an efective force after Crete.
