Default U.S. practice 22

A young raccoon grabbed me by the pants cuff while feeding our out side cat. I used this(Hi Standard) U.S. Army marked 22 long practice pistol (pictures) to eliminate the problem. At ten feet I fired three shots and missed all three. These pistols are not very accurate or maybe bad ammunition? Twenty minutes later he was back on the picnic table eating the cat food.
Thanks for looking,
Joe

Back in the mid 1960s I worked with a retired CID agent for the army. He told me he carried one of those. At the time that didnt sound right to me, but a few years ago I read some place that was what they were issued, or at least some were.
It should be accurate. Maybe you had incompatable ammo or something. I dont think they were made for hi speed ammo. I have a similar long barreled HDM.

Yep, must have been the ammo, or a real fast racoon.

We could never get the raccoons to feed our outside cats

When we lived in Memphis (Raccoon Capital of The Mid South) we had a BIG Tom Cat - Tig. Dogs would not walk on his side of the street Tig ate outside and one evening a pretty good size coon was at Tig's bowl. The cat jumped on the coon's back and started clawing it's eyes. The coon never checked up munching away.
Tig thereafter gave that raccoon a wide berth - Smart cat.
One evening the poor old coon ran into a 38 special from my old Model 10

The End
