I hear a .45acp revolver calling my name...
Problem is, I don't know which one is calling.
I shot .45acp pistols for years, but had to switch over to revolvers when I could no longer rack the slide with confidence and my heirs have received an early inheritance of all my .45acp bottom feeders except a WWII era 1911A1 made by Remington Rand.
I had to give up on .45acp pistols for physical reasons, but I'm not ready to give up on the .45acp round since it is one of the easiest rounds to reload, or at least it is for me with big paws and little feeling in my fingertips.
Unfortunately, my knowledge about .45acp revolvers is next to nothing, so I'm asking the more knowledgeable for suggestions/advice on what is available.
I prefer "skinny" barrels, 4" or less.
S&W is first choice, but will consider other flavors.
I'm not overly fond of the underlug barrels of the M625 and M22, but I like the looks of the M22-Model of 1917 except for the barrel length and lanyard ring.
Does (did) S&W or anybody else make a .45acp revolver that isn't nose heavy?
Thanks,
John

I really wanted a cut down Colt New Service and found this Model 1917 in .45 ACP. Some of these have four ton double actions, but this one was tuned like a Python. They are out there. And they sure aren't nose heavy. Here's mine next to my Cobra, and again with a demooner. That gun is bare metal and will stay that way. Good luck. .45ACP sixguns are fun shooters.

The Model 1950 and Model 1955 (Pre Model 25) are seen on the market but pretty scarce. The S&W 1917 in a 5 1/2 inch barrel doesn't really lend itself to concealed carry, but with the right modification (Like Wyatt's seen above) it will work great. Of course altering the gun has it's own set of seperate issues. Here's one of my New Service Custom 1905 Models in .45 Colt.

Like I said, my knowledge about .45acp revolvers is minimal. What is a "Governor"

Not looking for a CC gun. Of course, it will pull HD and/or Glove Box duty when not at the range.
Also, I will most likely go with something that has adjustable rear sights, so 625/625JM and Thunder Ranch are leading the pack currently.
What I'm doing is trying to compile a list of model numbers to search and be on the lookout for.

You could always put a wondersight on it.
Wondersight « Hollow Point Bullet Mold Service
That's what's on this 3 1/2" 1917.

They aren't easy to find, but my favorite is the M625 Mountain Gun in .45 ACP. It has a 4" tapered barrel and I find it very comfortable in the hand.

This chopped barrel (to 3 1/4") Model 25-2 is my favorite revolver of all times . . . and for the reasons you want a .45ACP revolver.
This is what I put in my glove box when I'm traveling . . . and by my nightstand at night. The various loads are for different purposes while traveling.
BTW, S&W made a 3" "Classic" series version very similar to mine about a year or two ago. It looks a lot like a Model 27 3 1/2."

I would second Muley Gil's suggestion for you.
Depending on what you like, S&W made a recreation of the 1917 around 2001, called the Heritage models. Some were blued, some casehardened. They didn't make many, but I see them for sale fairly often because most people think they're too nice to shoot, I guess; or more probably, they're just smarter than I am. I removed the lanyard ring on mine, and had Roy Fishpaw make some Sambar stag grips, and it's a great medium-weight .45 acp.
Due to my own orthopedic problems though, I like shooting the heavier model 1955 better.

I just got my first .45 ACP revolver a couple of weeks ago.It is a S&W 3" model 625, the darned thing shoots in the same hole at 7 yards. I probably won't have it long, my 16 year old grandson is trying to steal it from me.As for it being muzzle heavy I don't find it that way.

I have a 625 5" barrel I love! Very accurate. If I could find a good left handed holster she would replace my 9mm M&P as my carry weapon. (I prefer revolvers to semi-auto.)
