Ruger Vaquero
It appears that Ruger has finally discontinued the phoney case hardened frame on the New Vaquero in blue steel. Yipee! Now I think I will buy one. This will be strictly a fun gun. I'll probably buy a holster and play fast draw once in a while.
I'm thinking about the 4 1/2" barrel in .357. Will probably shoot at mid .38 special pressures.
Can you all think of any reason I should go with the .45 or the 5 1/2" barrell?

Actually that was a consideration. I've got three other .357's so ammo is an economic concern. I've got a lot stocked up.

Fun gun, get the .357, if you hunt, get the .45 and load it however you want.

Give your Lipsey's dealer a call and get a .44 Special!

Yeah, weight. I have a 50th Anniversary Flattop .357 and it's a HEFTY little gun. That's nice for mild recoil even with Magnum loads, but a lot of steel. My 4 5/8" NV is a lot lighter and handles better.
I've handled a couple of Sheriffs' Models and I really like them...

If you want a real "Cowboy" gun you're gonna need to get a Colt!
I've owned a couple of Vaqueros, and they were good shooters...but SA just isn't my interest, and I didn't really care for the grip and how it rolled in my hand.
If I was going to buy another, I would get it in .357, especially if I had lots of that ammo, and other handguns of that caliber. The ammo for a .45 LC is more expensive, and unless you just want one for some reason, there's no reason not to go with the .357. If you do want a .45 LC, then by all means get one and enjoy it.

I like the idea of a .44 special. Doesn't it have a ramp front and adjustable rear sights?

No, the Vaquero has traditional fixed sights in .44, .45 or .357.

after having had and used most of them , mainly the older style, Vaquero, ( and their phony ,fake inked, "color case") the newer one in the 357 would be MY choice...I too have and use and enjoy the 38 /357 for the most part, and have LOTS of them ...last a life time......

Just get one, whatever it happens to be. If you already have 357 then that'll do.
You are going to have so much fun shooting it you will end up with another one soon enough anyway, and will need another chambering so you don't shoot up all your 357 in it and neglect the other ones!

Yeah, that's pretty much the point. I haven't owned a single action in over 20 years. That was a Hawes (Sauer) .44 mag and it was not fun to shoot. I wish Ruger made a companion .22 with the same weight and balance.
Does Herrets have a website? I can't find it. I'll be lookin' to replace the stocks that Ruger supplies.
