Default 1911 Wraparounds?

Trying some different stocks for target shooting with the renegade 9mm Commander.

Anyone use wraparounds?

Guess we'll see at the range tomorrow.

Default wraparounds

I like them (yours look very nice) but I don't think I shoot any better because of them.

I've never had a problem holding on to a 1911. I even like the smooth grips on my compact 3 1/2" RIA. But, I do like a checkered front strap.

I agree...never had a problem holding on to a 1911 either.

Some stocks just fit my long, boney fingers better than others, I guess.

I have a pair of stocks almost exactly like those. Surprisingly, with my smaller hands, my Commander seemed to fit my hand better with them compared to the wrap around rubber ones. Right now I have a set of Esmerelda stocks on mine. I just wish Esmerelda would make a set of wrap arounds.

On revolvers I like 'em, but I just don't like them on autos. They add a lot of bulk...and they kind of ruin the lines of the gun...other than that, they're ok I guess...

Wow! Sorry, but those things are HUGE! I can't stand the Hogue and Pachmayr wrap arounds, I can only imagine how thick those are. Kind of defeating the purpose of the inherently slim 1911 grip frame.
I'm running these Alumagrips on my Novak 1991A1 Commander and I'm very happy with them.

Nice looking grips. I've tried some before and I don't seem to be able to hit the magazine release without adjusting my grip somewhat. They feel great.

I'm game, who made em? My 1911 is way to narrow for me.

The only 1911 I've ever tried with wrap-around grips was a Colt Defender, which came with them. I removed them and put regular grips on the gun. I have small hands, and I like the thinner profile of the standard 1911 grips.

Plus, I think they look better.

I don't like anything bigger than Pachmayrs.

Those are the only wraparound grips I have.

I have rubber wrap around pachmayers on one 1911. And INI rubber wrap around grips from cdnn investments on another 1911. The rest have wood grips. I like the rubber grips on my ccw guns. I can squeeze my fingers into them.

I have two other Dan Wesson pistols and based on the quality, bought this CCO sight unseen from a broker in Kansas. The only problem I had with it was that the front and back strap are chain link instead of dpi checkering. The officer frame is small in my meaty hand and with the chain link, it was harder to maintain a decent grip on it. The wrap around grips solved the problem. Love this gun.

I have small hands and hate wraparound 1911 grips of any kind. I have a Defender that came with wraparounds and I immediately removed them and replaced them with standard checkered wood grips. I have the front straps of my 1911's checkered at 30 LPI and find this perfect when paired with standard stocks and a flat checkered mainspring housing.

I guess hand size matters much with wraparounds.

My spider monkey fingers seem to like them so far.

No. I tried some many years ago (1979). Didn't like em.

I don't like anything that detracts from the 'slab sided' configuration of a 1911 or that increases its front to back dimensions.

Different strokes!

most simple solution: Pearce finger groove inserts

Now to shoot them and see how they work.

I recently attended a Travis Haley Disruptive Environment 3 day handgun class. It was over 100 degrees each day and we were shooting strings to the point where it made it difficult to hold my gun (that hot). Roughly 1200 rounds total.

early on...day one....one of the instructors walked up to me and asked if I was alright. I told him yes. He said I was bleeding. I look at my right hand pinky and the faucet was on. I ripped skin off and did not know it.

Day two, my primary hand felt a little raw. I broke out with a single mechanics glove and cut all the finger tips off and this improve holding the hot gun.

My gun is 25LPI and was using Larry Davidson oversized shredders (aggressive). While I am over 50 and drive a desk these days, I guess my dishwashing hands softened up (pushing too many pencils)

However I have switched to pachmyrs for duty carry.

I cleaned it each morning before class.

Years ago, I made the big mistake of waiting till the end of a 3 day class to clean a gun.

It was about 800 rounds that my SW CQB 45 started to malfunction. Shooting notoriously dirty PMC ball.

This was Remington ball. roughly 400 rounds a day....day two....we were rolling around on the powdered dirt. One student locked up his Ed Brown SF with so much dirt impacted into the internals....its scratched the finished. Toward the end of class on day two...my gun felt crunchy and had a malfunction in the dark that I could not identify. maybe my glove along with dirty gun caused a stove pipe.

Same as Smithsrevenge, I have Hogue wraparound grips. I have long fingers and get a very good grip with the wraparounds, I also like rubber grips because of sweaty hands in the land of heat and humidity.
My Colt 1911 also has a hard rubber checkered backstrap which really helps with my grip also.

Since moisture can build under rubber grips watch for rust under the wraparound that covers front grip strap.
