Has Anyone been to Knob Creek Machine Gun Shoot and swap meet
Has anyone been to the Knob Creek Machine gun shoot in Kentucky. It's next weekend and a friend and I are heading down there. We've never been and we were wondering if anyone had any insights.
Are there good deals on guns and ammo there?
Are motels hard to find?
Was it a good time?
Any words of experience would be appreciated.

Been there three times and would tell anyone they need to go at least once. You will see everything from Black powder cannons, to gatling guns, to mini guns, to flame throwers, and everything in between. Lots of interesting military vehicles to see. There is a fairly large on site gun show, but don't expect to see many Colts or S&W...90% will be military type stuff ,and lots of class III stuff. There is a retail gun shop next to the range and they have a cafeteria style restaurant attached. There are usually some good ammo deals to be found. Also, you can rent time on just about any class III toy you want to play with if you don't care to part with a few dollars.
Pray it does not rain. I would guestimate if you are not in one of the first 200 cars to arrive and park near the range, you will end up parking in a muddy field a half mile away. They do run a shuttle bus to those fields, so you don't have to walk unless you want to, and there are tractors to pull cars out of the mud..but it is messy, so don't bother washing the car before you go. Be sure to take ear protection with you. Cameras are permitted so be sure to take one with you.

Also take good earplugs and glasses, you will be happy you did. Ditto, everybody needs to go once. There are hotels in Sheperdsville If there not already full. Louisville is not too far, get a hotel near Dixie Hwy. You should also plan on staying for the night shoot, it's pretty impressive.

Having been to KCR multiple numbers of times, including working security all but one time, here's my list of do's and don'ts for the KCR MG Shoot:
- Bring lots of money
- Wear comfortable shoes/boots
- Bring lots of money
- Ear and eye protection
- Bring lots of money
- Have a backpack
- Bring lots of money
- Hit every vendor's table - twice - before you spend any money
- Bring lots of money
- Bring water
- Bring lots of money
- Park heading out so you don't have to back up with 10,398,385,398 other people trying to do the same thing - in the dark, probably while it's raining
- Bring lots of money

FTG-05 nailed it. I recommend the ear plugs on a string that go around your neck. When the 20mm starts to fire you don't want to hunt for your plugs. I found some great deals on Friday the first day that were not around by Sat. or Sun. The parking lot can be great entertainment if it rains and you are low on money.

Seen lot's of posts on youtube. I don't have many things left in my bucketlist but wanting to hold a fully-auto-anything while it romps and stomps is high on my list.
Go for it!

In addition to the ear plugs suggested by others, also take muffs and double up. Plugs alone are not enough.

It isn't cheap but you ought to try at least one. I recommend the uzzi Jungle walk as pure fun and take a camera and watch the flamethrowers. If you have a lot of coin go for it yourself. AIRC in 2006 it was around $200 for 3 minutes.

Great time
KCR is outstanding in it's own right for long range shooting and double the fun at the semi-annual MG shoots! Go on Friday. Less crowd, more up close and personal time with the folks on the line. The gun show is worth the price of admission! From time to time, ammo, magazines, etc. can be had for a good price. I've been going for over 20 years now, was a gunner in the USMC, but I'm still fascinated by the show of force and thankful we can gather with such exotic weapons in the USA. The range is in Bullitt County, KY and KCR runs a commercial with a voice over sounding like Obama saying "change is coming, and I'd ban KCR and anything there. If fact, I'd change the name of Bullitt County to Hopesville!"
Check the weather! If its raining, park on the highway and walk/catch a shuttle in. It's high amusement in itself watching the fools getting stuck and trying to power their way out with the bubba trucks!

I'm a bit of a "regular" there.
Don't count on seeing Flame Throwers anymore. Insurance issues. Too bad as they put on a good show.
The past couple of shoots, they've also reduced the size and number of "reactive" targets. They have also eliminated or toned down many of the "half-time" shows between shooting secessions because of a few accidents as well as possible insurance issues.
Still a must see at least once. Even more fun if you can get on the firing line.

I went two years ago to the spring shoot....if you haven't been you need to go. It really is a great display of modern and antique firepower, and there is just about no end to the trade goods on display, both NFA and other.
Hearing protection is a must...
