Default CZ 527 .223 bolt rifle, "Mini Mauser" accuracy and goodness (pics)....

Picked up a CZ 527 bolt action .223 rifle the other day, figured I would use it for club rifle matches, 100 yard bench rest and 100 yard High Power. Got a Redfield 2 X 7 compact scope for Benchrest shooting, remove the scope for the High Power matches. Got a spare detachable 5 round magazine for the rapid fire stages...

The action is a Mauser type, with controlled feed and Mauser extractor. Excellent, smooth feel. Has a set trigger if you want precision shots, regular trigger for rapid fire. Trigger is user adjustable for pull weight, overtravel and takeup.

As has been my experience with CZ .22 rifles, I found this to be a quality, accurate, full size rifle, good to go right out of the box. The iron sights were regulated dead on, point of aim, point of imapct at 100 yards. The rifle shoots military 55 grain ball ammunition accurately, I was getting 1.5" -2" groups with the iron sights on my first outing with it.

Picked up a Redfield 2 X 7 compact scope for it, Made in the USA by Leupold, $155. Shot some groups today with some of my handloads, my best effort so far is almost exactly 1" at 100 yards, a Hornady 52 grain Boat Tail Holllow Point, powered by 26 grains of BLC #2.

Here's some pics:

Best group and golf ball, both shot at 100 yards:

I really like this rifle, gives me some more reloading experimenting to do. Unfortunately for my wallet and domestic situation, CZ also makes a carbine version of this rifle, 16.5" barrel, weighing in at 5.9 pounds.....

Hmmm....

I really really like bolt action rifles in calibers that one can afford to shoot. That little CZ looks like it really fills the bill! Have fun!

Congratulations on a very nice rifle & some good shooting, w/ iron sights.
These CZ's (including rimfires) are nice rifles and I'm very impressed with the 527's set-trigger.
I have the Varmint model of the same rifle. She's a heck of a good shooter and pretty to boot - my only complaint with mine is that the 1:12 barrel twist doesn't allow me to shoot anything heavier than 55gn bullets. I buy custom reloads from one of the locals and have the best accuracy with 40gn V-Max bullets.

Put me down as a CZ 527 fan. Mines in 7.62X39. I've had it for, shoot it's hard to remember, at least five years. Very accurate and easily can shoot MOA with decent ammo. Mine is the carbine version and my favorite deer gun. In fact, I've taken more deer with this rifle than any other I've ever owned. Great rifles.

Another 527 fan. This one has the kevlar stock with a right hand palmswell. Muzzlebrake was added later.

Nice rifle! I were in the market for a bolt action .223, CZ's 527 would be the one.

I gave my 16 year old grandson a 527 Carbine in 7.62X39mm for Christmas this year. I put a Nikon 3X9 with a BDC mounted on it. Works great and is accurate with good ammo.

I have been looking at the CZ, Ruger and Savage Varmints in 223 so I also can load heavier bullets. I have a Vanguard in 223 and it has a 1:12 twist.

The CZ 527 (Varmint)is listed as a 1:9 twist??

Yes, they do! (That's a good use for golf balls, too - as far as I am concerned. ) I have been wanting one of those little carbines in 7.62 for some time, but they are not inexpensive.

Have a similar rifle to yours, the "American" model, in .221 Fireball and I enjoy it. They are nice little rifles, aren't they?

I sort of wish my .221 was a .222 instead, but I guess I have enough of those... maybe.

Yes, the varmint rifles do have the 1 in 9" twist, the others are 1 in 12" IIRC. The magazine might limit the OAL of the cartridges with the longer and heavier bullets.

I like my little carbine in .223 quite a bit. I have scope mounts for it, but it's just so handy without a scope I haven't put one on.

I have an AR & Mini-14; if I could only keep one .223, the CZ would be it.

My 452 American 22lr is such a tack driver, I figure the Varmint would be as good or better. I really like CZ products.
The quality a real Walnut for the price and accuracy is hard to beat.

In pricing out the 527 Varmint, the composite (Glued plywood) is more expensive than the Turkish Walnut which I think is odd? The composite is very dense and will never warp but still made from scrap wood and glue.

The above poster, one "Bullet Bob", hereby disavows any responsibility for fiscal insanity or spousal abuse resulting from any photos he may or may not have posted.

Actually, it's really nice. I don't particularly like round bead front sights for target use, but that gun has a nice set of sights. It's very accurate, although without a scope I can't give a better description than that.

I really like the carbine length, I have some shoulder (elbow, knee, back) problems, and the lighter weight is great for me.

I use the 527 American in .223 for my coyote calling rifle. It loves 40 gr. ballistic tips with Exterminator powder. Nice to have a smaller rifle to carry to the stand with all the other stuff. It does not like to feed the first round from a full mag. I just download one & all is well.

I love mine
I have an American 527 its a newer version that they make a 3rd mag that fits closer to flush Its a dream to shoot just so easy
I have a 7.62 by 39and 222 Rem also
I understand why,but the rings are a bit high but wish they were not being that they are not big kickers that helps
My experience is these are great but the Lux (European version) is very uncomfortable with a scope but lines up perfect for iron sights

A very good friend of mine loaded up some Barnes TSX bullets last deer season and had very good results
I am hoping to use mine this year for that

I LOVE THESE GUNS
Hank
