Default I have strayed

I found this long barreled early Vaquero in .45 Colt and just couldn't pass it up. I canned the cheap polymer grips that came with the gun since one was cracked and the grip screw was missing. These grips on it have an interesting story behind them. You might notice that they don't quite fit the gun. Back in 1995 when I got my first handgun which was a .357 Blackhawk my uncle told me about a guy he worked with who did some work with wood but had never done anything with pistol grips. The guy was a gun collector but had sold all of his handguns when his son committed suicide with one of his guns. After that he never touched another handgun or had anything to do with them, until he did these grips out of birdseye maple. So while they might not look like they fit the gun, they fit my hand perfectly, they are slightly contoured in a few different spots. I normally don't put these grips on anything, I have them in my safe due to sentimental reasons, but for now until I can get something I am not afraid of damaging I'll keep these on.

Nice Ruger. I do love these revolvers. They are sturdy. The only thing where you get use to is for loading to open the loading gate to revolve the cilinder.

But what a sad story about the son. Terrible it sign you for life. Beside that a young life gets waisted. No words for.

That is a fine purchase David. I have a few Vaquero's and they all are fine shooter's. Sad story with the grips, I hope the gentleman comes to term's with the hangun thing as Im sure that was a terrible thing for him to endure.

Those grips look like a fine fit to me. I love me some Vaqueros. I don't have a long-barrel Vaq. I do have a 7 1/2" Old Model Blackhawk in .45 Colt. Come to think of it, all my Rugers are .45s. Do they make them in other calibers?

I also appreciate the Ruger Single Action revolvers. Nice grips.

I have this 5.5" Vaquero with 45Colt and 45ACP cylinders.

I just picked up a 7.5" 45 Colt New Model Blackhawk made in 1981.(You can find the pic in the for sale forum here) I bought on the forum a couple of weeks ago. I can't wait to go shoot it.
