Default My Silent Friend-A special Addition

I've always been facinated by these and finally broke down and went thru the minor hassle of acquiring one. I'm glad I did, talk about fun to shoot!
I've learned a bit in the process, 115gr bullets will not run in this, I believe it has something to do with the recoil impulse due to back pressure. Whatever the cause, the result is when the chambered round fires it ejects the empty. Also the first round on top of the magazine, then tries (and fails) to chamber the second round down.
Switching to 124 or especially 147gr bullets cures that. Cycles fine and using the 147gr's it is very quiet. Somewhere around a .22, but if you stand back around 10 yards or more, it is very quiet indeed. Just a muffled 'pop'.
It took 3 months to get the paperwork thru, the first NFA weapon I bought took 6 months to the day, hopefully the next will run in a reasonable time frame.
Sig Saur P226 TAC, with YHM 9mm Cobra. A combination I'm growing to love very much.

Sir,

It looks like your line of sight would be lower than the outer edge of the suppressor. It that just an illusion?

Not an illusion, it is. Using the factory sights you 'aim thru the can', with a little practice it's rather easy. I've not got around to getting proper sights for use with the can. The trick to using the standard sights is to shoot with both eyes open, it's pretty accurate like that. Also the suppressor has something called a 'Nielson Device' which lets you adjust point of impact by rotating the body of the can around till it matches up with poi.
The biggest drawback is cleaning it. To reach maximum suppression you should use a small amount of oil inside the first few inches on the internals. Easy enough but when it comes time to clean it is a mess.
Set aside about 2 hours to do a good job and be prepared to get filthy. Imagine crushing up charcoal real fine, then dropping oily parts into it and shaking till coated. Now clean that up.
As I said, very messy.

Very nice indeed! The ones issued to us where of similar design and as you found out works best with 147gr. subsonic rounds. Dale

I have several cans, and I take a more pragmatic approach.....take a water container to the range with you, dip about 4 inches of the can in the water, and then shoot it...same thing, costs nothing, cleans easy....
CLEAR wire pulling gel lasts a bit longer, and evaporates completely just like water...

Wire pulling gel?? I'd never thought of that, being a phone man I've got plenty of it. As for water, I've just got an aversion to water anywhere near my guns, gives me the shivers.
Thanks for the advice, I'll try that.
Anyone know of a shoulder holster that fits a pistol with a suppressor on it? Not for CCW but just for knocking about.
