Default mossberg 500

looking for a shotgun settled on a mossberg 500. was looking at the 500 cruiser or the persuader tactical. but i was wanting a top folding stock. just for reference im getting it for fun shooting. my question is if im getting it just to replace the stock... should i just go with the cheaper 500 model or is there anything else special about those models that make them a smarter choice

I'm pretty sure Mossberg 500s are completely interchangable. If you buy the least expensive model, you can change everything else on them.

However, Mossberg does have some new 2011 offerings that are pretty impressive.

Here's their latest tactical 500 with an M4 style stock that holds extra rounds, a ghost rear sight with their orange front post, and a tricked out tri-picatinny rail forearm for lights, lasers, and vertical foregrips.

The 930 semi-auto tactical has a fantastic LPA rear ghost ring sight and a super easy to see fiber optic red front sight. Recoil with slugs and 00 buck in the semi-auto is easily manageable.

The 500 kicks pretty hard with slugs and 00 buck, but that's the nature of the gun. I shot a slug out of my pistol grip only Mossberg 500 once. Once.

I bought a Mossberg 500 a couple years ago with a pistol grip only stock for home defense. I bought some turkey loads tp shoot in it. That was a big mistake. I shot two rounds in it and it took almost a week for my hand to quit hurting. I sold it as quick as possible. Don

Even with a conventional buttstock, Mossberg 500s are notorious for brutal recoil, and assumably even worse with the illustrated folding stock. While it may be inexpensive compared to other options, it's no bargain if you can't/won't tolerate shooting it.

As mentioned earlier, the 500 is Reliable. I've had a couple of
them, and they never failed in the field. Lots of ducks and geese in the freezer if I did my part. Sold the second one after shooting slugs
in it: two rounds to check the sights. Got rid of it before I forgot how
much it hurt. I'd have probably tried it again, otherwise.
