Default Ruger Expanding Manufacturing in NC

Good news for the industry, and increased firearm availability for us shooters, as Ruger announces a new manufacturing facility in Mayoden, NC. Evidently, Ruger is not feeling the love in New England...

What is most interesting to me about this is that this is a true expansion, not a relocation. They are not closing one of their other two manufacturing plants, but rather opening a third one. Evidently Ruger sees room for real growth in the firearms manufacturing business.

This makes me proud to be from NC and I hope Ruger finds success here in the Tar Heel state. We also have Marlin Firearms, Remington, H&R, PARA, and others. They should feel right at home ...

They could still "relocate" in the future; maybe they are keeping their plans under wraps until a later date so they don't lose any current employees. I work for a large company that would probably do this so my view is somewhat jaded. I wonder how the size of this plant compares to the other two, especially the one in the NE.

We always need more boat anchors!

There is no indication, either way that they will be making arms or not at this facility. Ruger does a lot of investment casting for overpriced parts- like anchors.

One of our county commissioners has put feelers out to several firearms manufacturers, and apparently Colt and another company are looking. It is said that Colt "might" open up a facility at the old Ford Motor Co. Lorain, OH assembly plant with approx. 800 to 1,000 employees. That would be great.

Ruger Corporate HQ is in CT, but their actual manufacturing plants are in New Hampshire and Prescott, AZ. Both NH and AZ are pretty gun friendly, so I don't know that they'd be interested in closing either facility.

With demand for firearms increasing greatly, it's not surprising that they are building a new plant.

They might be interested in moving corporate out of CT, though. I know if I were running Ruger, I would.

Local area newspaper had a 'short' 2" column buried on page 4 or 5. The paper stands on the wrong side of the road!
