Dem boys in New York were making some great shotguns:
1919 Baker Elite
1927 Ithaca 4E Knick

The grain on the top gun is gorgeous! Is that the Baker? I am not familiar with that company...

Do you think that level of craftsmanship was common then? Today, that would be very expensive. The only thing is that the junk made 80 or 90 years ago has gone by now. So, our perception may be skewed.

Top one is the Baker.
Baker made three grades of trapguns.

Sterling (good)
Elite (better)
Superba (best)

Thanks for posting those lovely trap guns. No chance that you'll drop a bird because the safety was on!

Wow , two beauties from the golden age of American shotgun making.

Hard to believe that A.H. Fox made some of the finest doubles in the now highly anti-gun city of Philadelphia.

Very nice! Getting difficult to find graded single bbl trap guns in decent condition. Many have some extra customizing done by their owner(s) over the years in attempts to pick up an extra bird or 2 in competition.

The engraving scroll style on both looks remarkably alike.

Some say the stock on the Baker has been "dished" a bit, but I still like it The pad is a modern Silvers

The Ithaca seems original except for the old Jostam HY Gun that I had fitted to replace an old Morgan that was not original

I'm sure that they both shoot as great as they look. Perfect examples of, "They just don't make 'em like they used to".

The Knickerbocker has a superior action compared to the earlier Flues model, but the engraving on the Flues is something to behold. The Knick engraving is still beautiful, even on the lower grade 4E's. Your gun has the earlier style 4E engraving, but both styles are pretty neat. You have two beautiful (and functional) trap guns. I hope you get them out to the range occasionally.
