Grip suggestions for flashy 1911
A new toy followed me home. Need to ditch the grips and find some that will look better on the gun.
Any suggestions?

Mike1957: We're just kidding with you. Nice gun. It is a bit different than most 1911's I've seen. I'd stick with the original grips or black Buffalo horn.

I expected more than a little ribbing when I bought it.
I didn`t even get out of the gun shop before I had the suggestion that I should find a red Caddy, round up a string of hookers, and go into business.
I`ve got my share of "practical working" guns, but I`ve always had a soft spot for out of the ordinary guns. Out of the ordinary in either design or looks.

Now all you need is curb feelers and a purple velvet cowboy hat.

Flashy 1911
In the spirit of all this - fake ivory scrimshawed with the Caddy and Big Hat on either side, or seriously, ebony/black horn.

Grips should be made from the bones of a Standard Poodle that your Pit Bull killed for practice.
That gun also needs the Laser/Flashlight/Machete accessory (in gold & ruby, of course) hanging on those handy rails.
And to make it *perfect* the safeties (including that stupid junk they put in so it wouldn't go off if dropped) should be disabled and a 1.2 pound trigger job done. Also have THE heaviest firing pin available installed for balance against the rail accessories.
Load your *clips* with ++P, Squib, ++P, Squib, etc and have A BLAST.
Always wear your helmet, hearing protection, and eye protection when handling firearms. Have non-gangstas stand back aways while using this gun.

Mother of Pearl is the only way to go with gold and nickel (or polishless stainless).

Relax. If I couldn`t stand a little kidding and/or laugh a little at myself, I would never have posted this in the 1st place.
And just to show that I do have at least a little good taste, the pic below is of my favorite 1911 that I`ve had for over 30 years.
70 series Gold Cup. Been worked over a little, but still just a bit more conservitive than the Taurus.

I fed it 100 rounds of my reloads this morning. Had a vacation day and couldn`t resist trying it out.
230gr cast over 5.4gr of Unique and 230gr metal case over 5.6gr of Unique.
It ate them without any problems. Good accuracy, as you would expect from any decent quality 1911. No trick at all to hit pop cans at 20 yards.
I didn`t set up any paper targets to see how good of groups it would produce. Will wait for a day when it`s easier to keep the sweat out of my eyes to try that.
The sights are good and it shoots to point of aim.
Doesn`t have quite the same balance as my other 1911s. I didn`t think the ounce or two of extra weight from that rail would be enough to notice, but you can tell the difference.
Not enough difference to worry about, but might take a little getting used to if you were trying rapid fire strings.
Next time I`ll try some lighter bullets and hollow points. Need to do some reloading this weekend. I`m about out of loaded .45acp.

Decided on grips that were out of the ordinary, but not real high on the "Pimp" scale.

White pearl with gold hex screws.
EDIT: HAHA! I got the gold screw part right.
I still say go pimp or go home. White pearl.

Mike, I kind of tend to be real conservative in firearms equippage,
but if it shoots where you want it to, all the time, I don't care if
it's got flashing pink strobes on it. End result is what matters.
Thanks for letting us have a little fun with it.
You know, I've never had a red Caddy; when you get yours, I'd
like to see some pics! TACC1

I tried some fake pearl grips on it that a guy I work with loaned to me to see how they looked. But decided that it was just too bright considering what the rest of the gun looks like.

It might qualify as a pimp gun, but the one below is the Mexican bandito gun. A 1950s Colt Lightweight Commander in .38 Super. Someone did it up in nickel and gold plate with solid silver grips.
Came from a Texas pawn shop about 12 years ago.
As I said before, I`ve got plenty of guns that are for practical use, but these are just for fun.

Whats that black grip made of? I like the coloring. I doubt they'd show up very well on any of my guns but I still like em.
