Colt Diamondback Meets Prairie Rattlers....Well Almost, W/Additional Pics
Well,
As many of you know I don't have any 'safe queens' or investment firearms....
Just some ol usin' stuff and mabee a scratched up one er two layin around.
This little show pony got the new shot off'n it during a
resent visit to the Cowboy State for a prairie pooch plinkin'
and rattler cleanin out...Just enough to make walkin around room.
Colt Diamondback .22LR
Here's a pic or two, my nephew and the ranch foreman showin em off.
(The young feller skint his and fried 'er up and ate it).
Su Amigo,
Dave
BTW, No humans were harmed during the killin of these here rattlers.
So, just keep them cards and letters.

That Colt surely is handsome! That 6" barrel must balance in the hand perfectly and I bet recoil doesn't even exist. I love the gold bands too!
Those rattlers should appreciate being shot with such a gorgeous revolver!

I don't think that I'd be holding a Rattler by the tail as shown in those pics, I was once bit by a daid bee and wouldn't consider a Rattler dead until after chopping it's head off.

About thirty years ago I had a job assignment as an interpreter for Nippon Rentacar in discussions with Hertz. So we are in a car going someplace and the Hertz guy says he is from Kansas City. Japanese guy, making conversation, says, "Well what do you do for entertainment in Kansas City?" Hertz guy says, "Well, we like to get on our horses and ride out on the prairie and shoot rattlesnakes with our pistols..."
Japanese guy looks contemplative, and after a long silence says, puzzled, "Why?"
The Hertz guy and I could not stop laughing. It was too funny!

Those rattlers got kilt while Dave and his nephew was out trimmin' the pest herds a bit on the ranch.
They both had done lost their heads when those pictures were taken, but as you can see they ain't stopped squirmin'.
While a bunch of us was standin' around tryin' to best each other with "true adventures" Dave dragged that little Diamondback out of his possible bag.
I'm here to tell you that Colt is as pretty as a speckled pup.
That is as pretty a little gun as I have seen in a lot of years.
I'm usually not to interested in engraved guns, but I was sure checkin' my stash to see if I had anything I could have used to trade ol Dave out'n that one.
Not to be out done, Jeff, (WYO) broke out a Reg Magnum and as much as I argued, he made me shoot the darn thing. Mercy me that is one fine firearm.
From what I hear, Dave's nephew done as good a job of gettin' around a T-bone steak as he did on that snake.

I gotta say, I'm not usually much of a Colt fan - they just don't fit my hand like a good S&W - but that little pony of Dave's just made me twitchy all over! And Iggy didn't really protest all THAT hard over shootin' the Reg Mag, and he done a right fine job with it. That's a special gun for special people to use on special occasions, and that trip fit the bill to a tee!

There's one thing that is for sure---Who ever put that rib on the Python/Diamond back came up with one of the best looking revolvers of all time. I always wondered about that and not long ago someone posted a picture of a Colt that had been touched by them gunsmiths named King and low and behold, I do believe they must have been the inspriation for the Colts with the vent rib.
That one with the eagle sure looks good. Good to know there's guys out there that ain't afraid to carry and shoot such a fine gun.

Dave, beautiful Diamondback! Who did the engraving? Reminds me of a detective special engraved with a Pratt & Whitney eagle, etc., by a fellow named Francolini that I was admiring a couple of years ago. I contacted him but he was no longer accepting commissions.

Arlo,
I don't rightly know...A trader friend of mine came up with it from an estate he was buying.
I made him an offer and I'll be darn, he jest took me up on it.
Now, I'm the proud packer of a little Colt.
Su Amigo,
Dvae

Very true! And that is a grand little .22 you have there, even if it is one of those off-brand revolvers.

It appears to be a comemrative so the engraving was probably done by a "Colt" engraver.i.e. "factory" or could have been a commisioned piece,it looks factory to me,beautiful revolver.

What do you guys mean "beautiful gun", not only is it all scratched up but the bluing is stained too. It'll take a grinder to fix that poor little gun.

When I was growing up snake killin was a fovorite past time. We would walk creeks and river beds shooting em---well---that and turtles/frogs/carp/anythingthatmoved that was a critter.
Great fun growing up in that generation/time/space and place.
We used to take our 22's out to the river and find a high bluff. Anything wild was fair game.
Don't shoot the cows/horses/dogs or cats.
Blessings
