My High Standard Sentinel R103 .22lr 9-shot Snubby
sure is a fun plinker.

Initially I thought the cylinder/crane lock-up was pretty sloppy,
but in actual shooting the lock-up is pretty tight and it
shoots pretty accurately.
I was very happy and surprised.

Having a difficult time finding a holster for this model.
The frame seems to be too large for most snubnose holsters
I have tried fitting it into at LGShops.

There good guns but just make sure you dont dry fire them, the metal isnt that hard of them.

and dont shoot shorts in them.

My very first handgun was a 6 inch Sentinel many years ago. Bought it at Montgomery Wards hardware. Don't remember what I traded it for, but recently found a 4 inch model to replace it. Good plinker and cheap to shoot.

If you have read Hell I WAS there .Elmer Kieth had positive comments about the ergonomics of these.I am not far from where your gun was produced and have a double nine model myself.

You have to love those nine shot High Standards. My double nine which was the first handgun I bought, Still have it after 1000s of rounds. Terrible double action trigger but single action not too bad and it is very accurate.

A Double-Nine was the first gun I bought, too. I think I was 14 or maybe 15. I had other guns that had been given to me by friends of my parents who knew of my serious interest in firearms, but this was my first new-in-the-box gun that I had to trade real money for.

I let it get away years ago. What a moron. If I was the kind of guy that let bad past decisions sandbag my future, I'd probably still be prone in a ditch someplace, unconscious from that particular choice.

Sigh. Too bad. Next.

Those are nice guns. If you need a holster for it I could whip one up for you sometime. Here's a fancy one just to give you an idea but a simple field holster is a piece of cake.
These little Hi-Standard and J.C. Higgins and their longer barreled brethren are great shooters with perfect feel in the hand.

Around here you rarely see High Standards for sale, either at gun shops or gunshows. I have had three, these blue and nickel ones and a Natchez model with the bird's eye grips. For a economy revolver they are very viable. I did make the holster.







I have now passed them to my son.

I just came in from shooting my R101 again that I built this weekend. I found it completely disassembled in an old fibreboard box in my uncles garage. I didn't even know if all the parts were there but Saturday afternoon I started trying to figure out how it worked, a couple hours later I had a very grungy half rusted Sentinel that was shooting cans all over the yard. I need to take it all back part and give it a good scrub now that I know how she goes together.

Nice revolver.
I remember the High Standards from the 1950s & 1960s. The model you have was offered in various colors (green-blue-chrome-pink) and with white grips.
High Standard and Mossberg give a decent weapon for a afforable price.

WOW! I am impressed. IIRC the High Standards had pins instead of screws.
Wonder what the reason was for your uncle to take the revolver a part?

My wife's HS came with this Bianchi, with #5BHL .38/.357 Colt marked on it. It's her favorite plinker. She loves to shoot it but carries something else. PM sent.

I've never owned one of these but the first snubnose I shot was a nickled HS.
Lots of fun but I shot high all the time while thinking I was doing really well.

Almost bought one of the longer ones once but failed for the usual reason--lack of cash.
