Would you buy a revolver not made by Smith and Wesson?
Besides Ruger I mean. Like Charter Arms, Rossi or Taurus?
I want a new revolver so bad I can hardly stand it but after my experiance with one of the above, I just cannot make myself buy one. I have 3 Ruger revolvers and one model 36. I need more wheel guns but I just can't spend $1000 for a model 27 (my dream gun).

Already done. My first wheelgun was a Taurus 669 of '82 vintage. I was well aware of the spotty QA rep when I bought it. It seemed sound, finish was OK, and the price was $300 OTD. I also figured that any "issues" would have already been dealt with in it's 30 year lifetime.
So far I've been very happy with it. Is it as good as a Smith? No. But it always goes bang, it's very accurate & so far I haven't found any Smiths for $300 OTD.
EDIT: OOPS! How could I forget the li'l Dan Wesson? This one's a '79 flavor 15-2. This little revolver is SWEET! IMO a great bang for the buck. Usually find these for around $300-ish.

Might buy a Korth if the right deal was offered. Other than that I'll stick to Smith's.

Would consider a Ruger or Dan Wesson. Right now on my short-list is a S&W 66 w/4" barrel.

If I couldn't have a Smith, I would buy a Colt Trooper or old style Detective Special. I would consider an older (1980's or earlier) Rossi or Taurus if the price was cheap. But ... there are plenty of old pre-lock Smiths around and for very good prices if you look around. There is no reason not to have a quality S&W if you really want one.

Get a Model 28. Same gun without the shiny finish and topstrap detail, and you'll spend half that. Or less.
I've only owned one revolver that wasn't S&W; a Ruger SP101 DAO. It served its purpose, but... it wasn't a Smith. Can't speak to Rossi or Charter. Never even shot one.

I would not mind owning a few Colts I had a detective special for a while and it was a pretty good revolver even if the cylinder release is backwards. Taurus, Charter Arms, Rossi, a big no, I have fired a few of them and they were just plain sub par in fit and finish and accuracy. The only Rugers that I really want are the Old Army and a Bearcat.

Sure. I have Colts in addition to S&Ws. I bet you could find a used Model 10 for about $300. Excellent revolvers, Model 10s.
For what it's worth, of a coupla dozen plus handguns, I only bought two new, a Python and a Wilson Combat.

First, are we talking about double actions and not single actions? Are we talking about new, used or both?
I can go S&W, Colt or Ruger. I am a little leary of the others, but that strickly comes from reading others opinions.
I think anyone can still find used colts, smiths or rugers to fill the need without haveing to go with the grade B guns.
One big thing a lot of people dont take into account on buying those grade Bs, is the fact that on resale you still will lose big time, compareing the resale to a used but nice revolver of the big three.
I feel overall, you will come out better when it`s all said and done buying a used quality gun than a new christmas tree rossi or taurus, and you will have a quality gun while you own it.

My wife picked the Rossi Model 352 in SS as her carry gun. It has worked flawlessly and she especially likes the grips. Its a .38 Special and cost less than $400.

I`m not all that picky. If it`s decent quality and goes bang when it is supposed to, I`ve no problem with any revolver.
My favorites by far are Smiths and Colts, but I own many other brands. Several Rugers and Taurus, a Dan Wesson, a Rossi, Uberti & Pietta reproductions, even an old Astra 960 and an old Enfield break top.
But you get what you pay for. Taurus makes some pretty decent revolvers for reasonable prices, but keep in mind that the fit/finish and overall quality will be a notch or two below a good S&W.
All depends on what you want. Even an old beater truck gun like my Astra 960 will serve, but a Colt or Smith will do it better and with style.
I have tended to stay away from some brands like H&R, Iver Johnson, Charter Arms, ect.

You should be able to find very nice M-27s for 1/2 of that $1k...
OTOH - If ONLY NEW will do - - - Well, Why? One of the nice things about quality firearms is that with just slight preventive maintenance (like cleaning and oiling) they will last for a long, long time.

I've got several Colts probably one Colt for every eight or nine S&W's.
Ruger double actions have NEVER appealed to me. Simply do not care for their balance , feel of the action and especially the aesthetics.
I have no issues buying Colts.

When I was a guard at lockheed I always pretty much had my choice every day between colt offical police, S&W 586 and ruger speed six`s all in 4" barrels. I mostly always drew a colt offical police due to the less bulk and weight. The 586s had the large stocks and needless extra weight of the full length ejector houseing. The speed six`s we had, had the rounded smooth grips and butt that felt better in the hand that was also a little overbuilt like the 586s. I do like the push in button clyinder release better than colts pull or s&w`s push. Makes better sense to me from every standpoint than colt or smith. Since we carried .38 special ammo, I was fine with carrying the colt.
I stopped at the gate the other day to see whats going on as I had retired 11 years ago, was back in town and noticed the guard was carrying the ruger. He said the captains are now carrying .45 autos.

In addition to my S&W's I have a few Rugers. I'll probably pick up a Dan Wesson and a Colt or two at some point.

I don't currently have any Colt revolvers. Other people ended up wanting them more than I did. I would own one again.
I have a Cooper DA revolver made just after the Civil War. It seems a solid little construction.
I'd take a chance on one of the higher end Iver Johnsons too, particularly their prewar target guns.
Manuhrin makes solid guns by most accounts, as does Miroku. Neither are currently imported into the United States.
A vareity of old European military revolvers can be had that will work - Webleys, Enfields, French Ord, Nagants, etc
There's boutique made or at least marked SA revolvers to be had of good quality too. Some are made for Cowboy shooting, others for handgun hunting.
Older Charter Arms are generally nice guns. I have not owned a current production model. The armorer/student gunsmith that did a lot of work for me purchased a purple frame one for his wife. He seems to think it is well made enough.

Sure I would... and do. Why not? Right now I'm carrying a Charter Arms Undercover 38. I have no qualms about carrying it whatsoever.
I've owned or presently own, Ruger, Taurus, Colt, Dan Wesson, Harrington & Richardson, Nagant, and probably some other stuff I can't recall off the top of my head. Those are just the D/A's now. S/A's throw in a few more brands.

If you don't like my Charter 2000 it's OK,Please don't stand in front of it.
We all need a bang around gun and it serves well.If it gets scratched or worse,so be it.

I'd buy a Colt for sure. Taurus? They make some interesting revolvers, but I'd have to pass. I'll save up a few more weeks and get a good vintage S&W or Ruger.
Rossi? Never. Same goes for Charter. Nothing affirms the old adage you "get what you pay for" like Charter Arms.

I have owned Rugers and one Colt Python with a 3" barrel but, I am still not able to talk about why I sold the Python or the original M1A1 Carbine yet. There simply not enough George Dickel to forget those transgressions.

Sure. I own an Astra 3" .44 mag and I'm quite fond of it.
I just haven't found a good holster for it yet.

I bought one, a Ruger Alaskan .44. Only because I couldn't find a S&W 629 with 3" barrel at a good price. The Ruger is a nice gun and shoots well but I prefer the Smiths. I'll find one someday and sell the Alaskan maybe.

However, I would never own three of them- owning three of anything makes you a collector!

Sure. I have. As long as a revolver has everything I need and nothing I don't, I could care less who made it. Hopefully Colt will make revolvers again soon. Regards 18DAI

My first carry gun was a Taurus Model 605, 357 magnum. It had to be sent back twice because the cylinder timing was horribly off. Revolver's are supposed to be the most reliable of all handguns and my taurus was the complete opposite. Now i carry an M&P9 and will let my 357 sit in the glove box when i drive into the city for work until i get a smith 442. In my opinion i will never buy anything other than a smith again.

Heck yeah. I love Colt's, and I've owned Charters. I have a real affection for High Standard Double 9s, and I wouldn't pass up a decent Dan Wesson. I also have a Webley .45 and an Enfield .38 that are tons of fun. I even like old top-breaks like H&Rs and their ilk.

I'll eventually buy another Dan Wesson .357. I had one in the '80s and never should have gotten rid of it.

I've owned all three the OP asked about at various times. They functioned okay and were decently accurate. I know all of them have had quality problems reported by some people but I never had any trouble with the ones I had and only moved them on to get something else I wanted. I don't see them coming in for repairs all that often at the shop either.

I have been seriously considering purchasing a rossi.. (ducks thrown stones..) In my defense I figured the selling point would be a great way to break into the 6" 357 class. Once I handle it I would drop the money on a SW, ruger gp100 or yes even a Taurus 608. So I can have some craftsmanship to compare it to. Sort of like what I did with my first Semi auto, the Sigma. Trigger pull 12lbs, no bells or whistles. Now with my second auto loader I have a whole new found respect for the additional features, lighter pulls and so forth. Basically I like the start low to appreciate and have something to compare the higher end ones to.
