Default A nice 6" nickel Python . . . for "only" $1,250?

A fella I know proudly told me of finally getting a nice nickle Python for $1,250.

He showed it to me today. Slight turn ring, nice shape . . . but a newer stainless version with factory rubbers (Pachmyers I believe) with the gold rampant Colt medallion on the grips.

No box, now nice wood grips . . . probably a late version.

Was this a good price? I'm doubting it . . . but I'm not a big Colt revolver fan.

What sez you all?

Thanks,

Tom

A 6" nickel Python in the condition described could easily bring $1,500 to $1,800, more of really nice. A stainless Python would run $1,500 to $2,800, depending on finish and condition, with a factory bright stainless finish being highly sought after. I think he got a pretty good deal.

Yeah, Python prices have sure gone through the roof!

About 5 years ago, I sold a mint Python "Elite", (mirror polished, all stainless), that I purchased new in the middle 1980's for $1,000.00. It had the box, papers and even an extra set of custom sambar stag grips.

As an aside, it was also the most accurate revolver I've ever shot.

That was an almost "giveaway" price as I've seen Pythons and especially the Elites go for small fortunes nowadays.

I recently paid $1000 for a '69 Nickel Python, no box or papers, no original grips. And it is worn.

Yeah, he got a good deal.!!!
