Rock Island CS 1911
Yep, could not resist....
Once again, perfect function... And it hits at 50 feet exactly. POI & POA are the same with Winchester White box.
In a Milt Sparks IWB rig.

Nice! Love my Government length. Added night sights and wilson mags. Shoots like a dream!

Looks good. I would like the mid size. My Kimber from '97 seems large, but is reasonably accurate at a bit over 2" @ 25 yds from good rest.

Lots to like. I carry my "Enhanced" model off duty a lot, I have complete confidence in it.

Damn, you are making it very hard for me to chose which firearm to buy. I've narrowed it down to two; a SA revolver and RIA - exact same model. I had decided to buy the SA until I saw this thread.

I did a few more modifications to my Rock Island .45 than you guys did, however, my result is a $400 .45 that will out shoot my Wilson CQB.

Looks just like my Compact model. After I added the beaver-tail grip safety and enhanced sights. Mine shoots to poa at 10 yds. But then I installed and tailored the sights.

I've been buys Rock Islands/Twin Pines 1911s since they were
$275.00 MSRP. I have yet to get a bad one. Accurate and Reliable. If I buy one now, its always the Tactical Version as I don't have to put a Beaver Tail Grip Safety and a new hammer on it as they come with them. I have a bunch of them from the Compact, the Government and the Commander sized. I call them the Glocks of the 1911 World, they run right out of the box.
If you want to start out with a 1911, I'd recommend the Rock Islands.

Actually, it's a simple fix that will only cost you a few parts - standard length mainspring (I recommend 19 lb), standard mainspring cap, and mainspring cap retainer pin. With the gun empty, hammer uncocked, and ILS locked, remove the mainspring housing retaining pin and cock the gun to push the MS assembly out. Press down on the MS cap with a short Phillips head screwdriver, unlock the ILS, and relieve the tension on the MS. Remove the ILS MS cap and the short original MS. Put in the new MS and the new MS cap, press down on the MS cap with the screwdriver, and put the new MS cap retaining pin in. With the hammer uncocked, reinstall the MS assembly back into the gun, taking care to put the sear spring back in place, and retain it with the MS housing pin. This takes longer to describe than it does to do the work itself.
The longer, 19 lb. MS will give you an improved trigger pull as a bonus.

I am a RIA owner , compact & tatical .I also make grips for the 1911and have run into a problem .The grips that fit a 70 series colt perfectly do not align up on the frame of the RIA.On the RIA they are 3/32 back from the front of the grip frame & flush with the back of the frame And I am going nuts trying to figure out the problem .All the holes seem to be in the right place according to the KUhNHAHSEN book matching it also to a colt. One thing that i just remembered is that my Kimber conversion slide overhangs the back of the RIA slide .063
the colt slide over hangs the same when installed on the RIA.
I think the holes are properly spaced but the slide stop hole was (reference hole) was put in the wrong place. The RIA's both run great but this grip problem is driving me nuts Going to contact Armscor customer service and see what they will do.

BubbaBlades, I also bought my RIA Gov't Model to use as a lower for my Mech-Tech Carbine Conversion, mine's a .460 Rowland, and a tackdriver. I have shot groups with factory 45ACP ammo well under an inch at 50 yards. They sure are fun to plink with, and I found a bunch of ten-round magazines.
Walter, the picture I posted on the previous page shows both my RIA's, the top one wears a set of aftermarket Cocobolo stocks, and like you mentioned, they are much closer to the back of the gun than the frontstrap. I think it feels just fine, but I can see as a gripmaker how it would make you nuts!
