Default Finally Got A Walther PPK/S, But Lost A Colt To Get It.

I'm a revolver guy but there's a couple autoloaders I always wanted. Here's one. I saw a close to new 1992 Interarms Walther PPK/S .380 locally for $450 with extra mag. and three boxes of ammo. So I dug into the back of my safe, dusted off and posted my early 50's Colt Police Positive Special .38 Special and sold it for $400. Then I bought the Walther for $425. I have no regrets about selling the Colt. I have a Cobra that fills the same niche the P.P.S. was useful for, and I only had $165 in the P.P.S. But now I have a gun I always wanted, a PPK/s .380. And if James Bond comes to mind here, I'd like to remind you all that there was only one REAL Bond. And that was Sean Connery.
Here's the Colt. It had wrong grips on it.

And the Walther with the stuff that came with it.

Nice Walther Wyatt! I'm glad to see it's an Interarms, my S&W PPK/S was a jam-o-matic if there ever was one, even after it was sent back and S&W polished the feed ramp to meet "their specifications."

Interarms PPK/s = fine pistol. I have a couple that my wife claimed for her own. Now we share them. Looking for range report.

I've got an Interarms PPK .380 SS w/2 SS mags, box and manual. I've had it 10 years or a little longer. It has been flawless and is accurate for it's length. I hear Interarms are quite superior to the S&W one. Enjoy your new Euro Police Pistol.

I have a PP made by Manhurin. Nice shooting gun when the slide isn't biting the hand that feeds it.
I should take it out and shoot it. It's been too long.

Did you know that one of the movie posters for a Bond flick had a pic of a pellet gun instead of a real PPK? Brit gun laws were involved somehow, I think.

For the poster/ad shots for the movie From Russia with Love, they gave Connery a Walther LP53 at the set as no one remembered to bring a suitable prop PPK.
Supposedly it was the photographer's air pistol. It was a Walther and it was decided it was good enough for the pics. It was never used in the movie I guess.
It sold for a good amount of change a few years back at auction IIRC.

Nice PPK/S. The InterArms guns are nice.

German made guns - some Interarms were made in Germany, some in the U.S. - tend to fetch a premium over the U.S. made guns. At first it was just the PPK that was made in the U.S. - it fell afoul of the GCA '68 due to size, whereas the PPK/S was still importable and indeed came about to circumvent the GCA '68.

If memory serves, you have a PP frame with a PPK slide. Thus was born the PPK/S.

I've had a German made PP and an American made PPK (not PPK/S), both from Interarms. The PP was made in the 60s if I remember right and was a .32. The PPK I bought NIB circa 1996 for 400 dollars since it was the first blue one I'd come across. It was a .380. (I also had a Walther PP Super in 9x18mm Ultra, but that was a different animal...)

The guns don't tolerate dirt and pocket lint well. My 1996 PPK would not work with any of the JHP offerings then readily to be had. Even the direction manual said to use it with FMJs. With those it worked fine. If kept clean.

Bond had a .32 German made PPK. These actually did see use by Brit intelligence services, as a sort of legacy of WW2, where they were a prized "catch".

The Colt guys let me slide on this "lapse in judgement". Lee hasn't banned me again for not including a S&W in the deal. So so far so good.
And BTW. I don't much like stainless steel but I do like the stainless Walthers a lot. They are an exception.

Negative Comment:
I had a Walther PPK .380 Stainless. It was a "Biter" just like a M1911.
IMHO there are a lot more PPKs than nice Colt P.P.S..plus "Foreign Import" verus "Made in America".

I never could get mine to run right. I ended up getting a Polish P-64 to replace it. I don't miss mine, but if it was a pretty as yours, I would have found a gunsmith to make it run.

Default Walther PPK / PPKs

I have a Walther PPK SS model, that I purchased new in 1989. Its a great gun with min problems. I have to quallify with it once a year and every one expresses surprise over how accurite the gun is. I have carried it every day since I got it. I do wish that model was available in 9 MM.

have owned a 67 model ppk in 380 that's literally been around the world. looks it too. anyway, if you shoot fmj ammo, mine would work everytime. even with the hollow points available now, it's only about 75%,but it hasn't even had the feed ramp polished. careful where you grip to shoot, those slides are sharp on the bottom .

I agree about Sean Connery being the only "real Bond".

I have one of these. It is great and feeds perfect with the correct ammo. And...I don't have to load .380!

The instructions to mine specifically stated to use hyper-velocity ammo for proper functioning. I found the CCI Stingers did that and shot to POA accurately enough.

Then I went to WalMart and bought several boxes of the different brands of "cheapo" stuff. It feeds the Remington "Thunderbolts" perfectly well and also to POA so I went back and got a "lifetime" supply...and by now maybe too much!

I had a pre-Interarms '66mfg PPK in 22lr. I bought it used w/extra mags in the early 70's. Carried it about daily since and finally traded it about 2 years ago for a rifle. Lots of miles and rounds, but a great pistol. Broke a firing pin one time but that was it.

Had a few of the PP 32acp police pistols recently imported. Should have kept at least one.
Two or three PP post war pistols in 22lr. They were beautiful pistols but for some reason I didn't find them as comfortable to use as the PPK in tha same caliber.
One was a PX purchase in W Germany and brought back to the US in the early 60's w/box.

Still have 1937 PPK in 32acp Nazi Police E/C marked w/ holster and extra mag. I shoot it once in a while just because.

I had a nice Walther LP53 airpistol, but that went on permanent loan within the family.

The PPKs are really cool.

Greetings, WB,

Congrats on your "new" PPK/S! Back in the day, we went to a LGS in San Diego, and my wife and I bought two quality .380 pistols. I bought a NIB Sig P230 in stainless steel, and my wife, who thought the Sig was "too big", picked an Interarms-made stainless steel PPK/S, with a couple of extra magazines. We loved both guns, and found them both to be of outstanding quality. Contrary to what I've read here, and other places, the little Interams PPK/S did not bite either of is, nor anyone else who shot it back then. But, guns were fairly accurate, all the way out to 25 yards, and still are.

However, as good as they were, we found the PPK/S to be a bit picky with JHP ammo that was available back then. It didn't like Hyra-Shok, but actually functioned like a champ with WW Silvertips. That round has been accurate, and totally flawless, in both .380's, but recently, we've been considering a new test with both guns, using the more modern, and much-changed offerings that are out there today. In the end, however, my wife found the slide on the PPK/S to be very hard for her to retract easily, and that scared her out of using that pistol anymore. So, I've shot that one for many years, and still like it. It, and the little Sig, has class and panache!! My wife much more prefers one of our J-frame Smiths, or a Ruger stainless 101 in .38 SPL, with the old FBI load in it. She shoots them VERY well, and very accurately, and she can reload those revolvers with ease, which gives her confidence, should she ever have to shoot one in self-defense.

So, now that little PPK/S is more mine than hers, but should she ever decide she wants to work more with it, it's here waiting for her! Again, congrats on your new little semi-auto, Sir!! Take care, and God Bless!

Every Good Wish,
Doc
