The Russian Maks with fixed sights are good guns, as is any Bulgarian. The adjustable sighted Russian guns have a history of the rear sight coming off - cannot be replaced. Darn good quality guns - especially the East German ones.

I'll second that! I've had my share of Maks, Bulgarians, Russian, and now an East German, all proved to be very reliable and more accurate than you'd expect! Plus 9x18 is still cheap and plentiful. Dale

I would (did) get the CZ 82 over the Russian. The Russian and other similar ones have BRUTAL triggers, especially in DA. The CZ is a tack driver.

We had a .380 russian commercial Mak back in the 90's and that's what I paid for it then. Never had a problem with it. Wish I still had it.

Never had a problem with mine:
The rear sight has never given me any issues and it has the shocking accuracy that fixed barrel guns often have. I'm hoping to get a mold for casting my own bullets soon. The double stack makes for a bulky grip while only giving two extra shots. I keep thinking of finding a single stack model since this one can be so fun at the range. Darn Commies... Why did they have to give them such an odd bullet???

Ditto on the CZ82 in 9mm mak. There a surplus czech military CZ pistol and come in different conditions and prices around $189 to $210 on average. There in good to very good to excellent condition. They have a double action first shot feature like most CZ pistols do. They come with two 12rd mags. Right now i own three of them.
I chose the CZ82 over the russian mak and i'm glad i did too.
The CZ83 comes in 9mm mak, 380acp and in 32acp and cost a little more but there pretty much the same pistol as the CZ82 is too.
All my CZ pistols have the best track record for being flawless too. Bill
I purchase my lead cast bullets from www.snscasting.com He has been very good to deal with like one of the best and has fast shipping too.

I have three Makarovs. All of them are reliable and accurate. They are comprised of a total of 23 parts, and can be detail stripped with parts of themselves. You can even use them as a bottle opener. (seriously)
They are wonderful, and the Russian and German ones bring a bit more than that round here. I would pay $200 and feel good about it. I got three Bulgarians about ten years ago for $500.

My CZ 82 has polygon rifling , so lead bullets are not recommended.
Bob, your gun looks like new! I have not seen one with adj sights. Is the safety just safe or is it a decocker also??
Where did you find that one??

It's also a decocker. I found her in a pawn shop in Orlando around ten years ago. I think I paid $250 OTD for her. I'm glad mine doesn't have the rounded rifling. I also have a serious large soft spot for Polish P64 Radom pistols. I'm going to own one someday.

I've had three Bulgarian and one Russian Makarovs and they are excellent guns. Mine were a bargain and very nice shooters too. I gave one to my niece as a self defence gun as she got her CPL and had no gun. The slide is a little hard for her to work but better if she cocks the trigger first. Before you ask I tried giving her a S&W revolver but these young kids want auto loader 9's these days.

She might stay a safe queen if I don't get my Mak mold.
