Default Older Ruger 77 MKII question...

Can't find out much about this original style All Weather 25-06. From late 2000 it is a heavy barrel in 25-06 with a 24" barrel.

Was the heavy barrel contour common?

Posted the same question on the Ruger forum. No response there, either. Hmmm

Guess I will call Ruger records on this one..

Giz. I'll chime in since you've had so much luck w/ responces.

Back in the day , I bought a M77 MKII Varmit (Target) Matte Stainless (Floating) heavy barrel w/ Laminated stock in .223. From what I remember from my research, I do not believe yours had an option for a heavy barrel.( meaning mine was a bull barrel, no taper like yours.) That's my opinion. I could be wrong! All I know is it shoots dimes at 100yds.

I looked at my file and it looks like I bought it in the late 1900's. 1994 for $500 OTD. (the Mini-14 in 1990 for $389)

Let me know what Ruger says.

The only picture I have is an old one. It's right behind the Mini.

That looks to be the same standard barrel contour as my Ruger M77 MKII all weather in 300 Win. Magnum. I bought mine in 2005. It made the std M77 MKII a bit heavy (mine's like 9 lbs + with a 3x9x40 Leupold scope) but they will shoot like a house afire.

I have one in .30-06 from about 2002 with a 24 inch barrel, but I don't recall anything particularly about it being a 'heavy weight'.

I bet it's a "magnum" contour on the 25-06. Just a guess.

Well,

Ruger records left a message. My gun is a MKII in 25-06 from 2001. That is all the info they gave. Didn't even mention anything about it being stainless or all weather. No model code was given.

Pretty disappointing.
