Default Help me date an old Winchester catalog (pics)...

A gun shop friend gave me this old Winchester catalog a couple of years ago, and I've been trying to figure out how old it is. It is not dated in any way, has no prices on the rifles. The cover is ink stamped
"Polly Bros., 4456 Frankford Ave, Philadelphia, Pa."

The cover does have a small "Olin" Trademark:

Winchester Model 94 offered in 25-35 caliber, 30-30 and .32 Special. Model 07 offered in .351 Winchester caliber:

Winchester Model 61 and 62 (NOT Winchester Model 62 "A")....

Winchester Model 97 visible hammer pump shotgun still offered:

Anybody have an idea of how old this catalog is?

Thanks,

Canoeguy

Well, they discontinued the mod. 97 in 1957. The year the Take Down mod., illustrated in your catalog, was introduced escapes me right now (memory 'aint what it use to be.)

I would guess your catalog was printed sometime between 1950 & 1957.

I dont know when the catalog was printed but if it was in the 50's I dont remember the Winchester rider being shown in the NRA American Rifleman ads for the Winchesters then, I always thought that was a kind of newer thing for them. Jeff

I believe that's a 1950 catalog, without the price list.

Winchester 62a history
The mod. 62 pictured in the catalog is actually a 62A, even though it doesn't state it.
The 62 had a 5-3/4" slide with 10 grooves and the 62A has a 8" with 17 grooves.

Canoeguy.... Look at the pic in your catalog and you'll notice the 8" slide with the 17 grooves.

Was the 94 listed in 25-35 that late? (1950)
I thought that caliber disappeared during WW2.

Probably a bad assumption on my part!

According to my Winchester book the 25-35 was discontinued in 1936, but reintroduced from 1940-50. The 97 was discontinued in 1957. The 07 .351 and 62 were discontinued in 1958 and the 61 in 1963.

Take it from there.

Thanks for the replys, looks like the 1950's.

Very surprising to me the Model 97 visible hammer pump shotgun was still available, I would have thought they would have discontinued it long before the 1950's.

It's 1950.
Try this Google search - on my computer it's the 4th image.
