Tough to compete with labor wages in Turkey.
The lower end of the O/U market is full of 'priced right' shotguns for the US shooters. As much as everyone cranks about Buy American,,they like to save $$ and not look at the lable.
Quality is another issue though.

At least it lasted longer than the Gold Lable,

I don't know why people like to knock the Red Label. I have two; one in 20ga and one in 12ga. Both look good and balance well and have been utterly reliable. Both have accounted for a lot of pheasants as well. The 20ga in particular is a pleasure to carry.

Great gun, good looks and they do what they're supposed to. And made in the USA to boot. Sorry to see them go, but I'll gladly keep mine.

I have a 20 Ga Red Label and will be keeping it as well. I don't know why anyone would bad mouth one either.

Add another 20 to the list. I ordered one a long time ago from my LGS and after a while, an all blue special run from Orvis showed up. I have Brownings, Winchesters, Parkers, a Holland & Holland, but I LOVE my Ruger.

Sad for the rest of you, but I got mine!

I played with a Red Label some years back. I was ready to buy one, but the guy behind the counter was running them down. "Not near as good as that Citori there, make crudely, rough," etc., etc. I walked out. Ended up finding a very nice early '30's 20 ga. side by side I hunted with for years.

They will certainly increase in value. Hold 'em if you got 'em.

Totally agree,

If you can find one at a reasonable price, now is the time to buy....

I have a 12ga., 3"chamber 28" barrels with screw in chokes. The only way I would ever get rid of it would be to finance a Browning Broadway Trap Superposed.

I don't know why this shotgun gets a bad rap. It has been my go to shotgun since 1991.

I have heard rumors that the #1 may not be around for long either. From what I have been told they haven't been selling many lately.

I'd say old Bill is too busy laughing to roll over.

Back in the '80s when I was working the gun counter at the local hardware store the Red Labels were highly sought after.

They were very expensive, for the time, and you couldn't find one if your life depended on it. I had a guy come in one day and wanted me to find one for him, he had read a magazine article about them and the writer claimed they were the best... After checking with all my distributors the answer was, there were none to be had, everyone had backorders out the wazoo and the wait was indefinate. The customer told me to put his name on the list.

It wasn't three weeks later I got a call from one of my sales reps. She asked me how many Red Labels I wanted, then she started laughing. I asked her what was so funny and she told me that apparently they weren't selling as well as they had and Ruger had been holding on to a mass quantity of them, keeping the demand up and the availability low kept them selling at a premium price. Now they were less than half price and I could get as many as I want in any configuration I wanted.

I ordered one.

A great gun. I bought a sporting clays model in 20 ga with 30" barrels and it is just a great gun. I've used it for ducks, dove, squirrel and bunnies. I like it MUCH better than the Citori- I like the shallow receiver. When I got mine, the over unders were all the rage and the automatics were in disfavor. Now it seems that the semi autos are back with a vengance and everyone that used to show up with a two barrel now is showing up with Benellis (guilty as charged ) Berettas, etc. Too bad because the Red Lable was truly a great design.

So, what's a Broadway Trap going for?

I have had a 12 gauge for over 20 years and we work very well together. It is heavy, but so am I. The SD pheasants do not care for it. It is not for sale for any price.

Bought one new in 12ga when they first came out. Shot trap and hunted with it. Used to beat the heck out of my face and teeth, in trap especially. They were known for recoiling up as much as back. Sold it, don't miss it.

Have a 12 gauge with English stock with beautiful fiddleback I bought right out of law school. My Dad took one look at it and said I had an "heirloom gun" to pass down someday. It will stay with me.

I think the only people not liking them are the ones who've had them break, sent them back only to be returned not fixed, or break again right away.

Which leads me me to believe the guns are either all right, or all wrong, right from the get-go.

I had a 28” 12ga with an English stock and it kicked like a mule. One of our club members had two 28ga Red Labels and wanted to get a 12ga for his son to shoot skeet. We made an even trade and were both happy. The 28ga is built on a true 28ga frame and is a lovely little gun.
I have seen several Red Labels that suffered cracked forearms because the forend screw loosened up. It’s a good idea to periodically check it.

I've had a 12 gauge Red Label for years, it's been a good shotgun, sorry to hear they will be gone.

I only have one. A 1985 26" 12 gauge.

But now, guess it is time to get serious about finding the 28 gauge. Prices are only going to go up...
