Default Gov't model .22 walther/colt

Just picked up one of the new Colt/Walther gov't models
in .22 LR today. Looks like it will be a blast to shoot.
Looks and handles like the 1911 Gov't model but just
lighter in weight. Same features. Bought it for the wife.
Anyone else own or shoot one of these yet?
What ammo do you recommend?
How tough and expensive will it be to get extra mags?

chud, i just got my American Rifleman and saw the article on that gun. seems like a very decent price. was thinking of calling my buddies' shop and seeing about trading for one myself. probably, like most pistols it will like standard velocity ammo better. i've never had much luck with high velocity .22 ammo from a pistol like i have with some revolvers i used for hunting prarie pooches. let us know when you shoot it. lee

I've had one for about 6 months. Shoots great, easy to carry. Don't have to get new holsters as it is the exact same dimensions as a Colt GM, except lighter. Has a 12 round magazine; I haven't tried to get another one, so I don't know how difficult/expensive it may be. I use CCI Mini-Mags in mine, either solid or HP, both work 100%.

I've heard good reports all around on reliability. The looks are
what initially attracted me to the pistol. Can't beat an old 1911
I'm gonna wring it out this weekend and i'll report back. My LGS
guy sold his first shipment in a week and he got 6 more and expects them to be gone by weeks end also. He said it's probably all he'll
be able to get too. He could'nt get any of the Gold Cup models
at all.

Several manufacturers have brought out 22 ammo specifically for the 22 conversions and guns like the AR15 clones. It's all in the 1200 to 1250 fps range specifically for reliable functioning. Accuracy isn't too bad either.

Not the Colt model, but I recently purchased a SIG 1911-22. Manufactured by GSG and branded by SIG Sauer. I've got about 6oo rounds through it and am enjoying it. A good purchase for $369.00.

I ordered 3 extra mags for the Colt.22 from Cheaperthandirt.com
They are on the way. I'll post a follow up to let you guys know
how it shoots sunday evening. At 399.00 i could'nt pass one up.
Hope it shoots as well as it looks. I'll run alot of different ammo
types through it to see what it likes best. I have ELY, REM., CCI,
FED, WIN. So i have a pretty good stockpile of .22 LR to try.

Thanks to all
Chuck

@Walter, My buddy has a conversion kit for his Colt GoldCup to shoot
.22 LR but he has a lot of FTE and FTF's with his kit. Hopefully this
1911 thats a pistol made for .22LR only, and not just a kit to make a
.45 acp shoot .22's will be more reliable. I've heard good things online
from buyers with function/reliability. I'll check out the steel framed Rock Island, that sounds like fun also.

I had a .22 ACE kit for a my Colt commercial. The standard .45 mainspring didn't have enough "oomph" to reliably trip off rimfires. Lots of FTF's.
