Default Remington 40X .22

This past weekend, I got the pleasure of shooting my buddy's Remington 40X .22LR. What a Cadillac! That thing makes every other .22 rifle I've ever shot, feel like a toy. Shot to point of aim with all 4 brands of ammo I put through it at 50 yds. It has the best rifle trigger I've ever pulled. I've never got so much enjoyment from shooting a single shot .22 before. What a great American classic gun. I sure wish I could get him to sell it.

I have one, with USMC markings. Got it from the CMP several years ago.

My youngest son and I used it to shoot .22 benchrest matches for a
few years. It liked Wolf Match Target a lot.

Put a big Simmons Blazer scope on it.
Fun to shoot.

Yes, they are great rifles. I've long dreamed of owning a 40X Sporter. Dream on, dream on.

Compare it to an Anschutz match 54, and you may have difficulty deciding which one is the better. I have an "old" (1973 vintage) Mod 1407 ISU ant it will shoot into a 1/4" at 100 with the right ammo (and favorable wind). With a 20X Unertle mounted it is an outstanding 100 yd match rifle.

H Richard, My buddy had a 1407 Anschutz, that he used in matches. He said it would always out shoot the 40X. He quit rimfire matches because of the chase for ammo. He sold the 1407, he won't sell the Remington.

Don't ever fire a 52 Winchester...you will be hooked for ever. I have a 52 D Winchester and an 1813 Anschutz.

The Anschutz still out-performs the Winchester but by a small margin and the Winchester is NOT as finicky about ammo as the Anschutz, feed it the really good stuff and it gets even better.

I've had several Anschutz 54s over the years, loved them all. I currently have a Remington 40x as well as a Remington 37. Here is a picture of my 40x:

I was lucky to find this one last year. It is US marked and was made in December of 1964. Only one month younger than me!
