is the sig p220 a good gun for lead semi wad cutters ? Whats the going rate for a P220 ?

"BEST" is dependent on what it's intended use is. For cowboy action shooting a SAA would be best, for CC a G19 could be best.
My "BEST" is a S&W 686 SSR, 4' brl because it's used for home defense. Sorry it's not a .45 but it is my best for that purpose. All my .45's are 1911's

Hk45 :-)...... Crazy accurate, shoots like a dream...just fits

I'm not much on polymer ,but the springer Xd and HK Usp are pretty good. I'm more of a if ain't steel it ain't real kinda guy. The HK USP is scary accurate and feels great. The springer has a good feel and a good trigger. Just my 2 cents worth.

I sold my XDM 45 and bought a FNP45 Tactical and I love it. See WC145's post for a pic cause mine looks exactly like his! It is my current home defense/bedside gun. It's not much good for civilian cc but for a service weapon and for HD it is hard to beat! I didn't know if I would like the Trijicon RMR, but after trying it I'm sold. Sig P220 is also a classic and a close second IMO.

No contest.... S&W 625, Model of 1988. Moonclips are wonderful things.

For CCW a Star P.D. was a great gun(so good try find one), and the 220 Sig family is wonderful-I've carried full size and own a 245. For rough duty 45 wheele gun; 1937 contract 1917 with the lanyard!

Pistol? Sig P-220. Revolver? S&W 625-2.

The reason I picked the Sig 220 for my nitestand is because it's the only gun nobody seems to disagree it is first rate. Haven't fired it much, but from the experience I've had so far with my 226 9mm I'll sure trust it as long as the ammo does it's part.

Both guns have the internal extractor and breechblock.

I have to lean toward the SIG- P-220 (which fits my hand) and the USP (which doesn't, too well.)

I have a S&W 645 and really like it. Also an older alloy SIG P220 as well. Like them both, also plan on getting a S&W 4501 or 4501-1 at some point too.

For me, it's gotta be the Model 1955. This one shipped in 1955.

Another vote for Sig Sauer. This P245 never fails to function and is accurate. But the wood grips are like lipstick on a pig. Resides in my nightstand.

I'm pretty committed to the 1911 and don't stray too far. Picked up a Kahr CW45 six months ago and hopefully have the gremlins exterminated. I view it as a work in progress; I don't altogether trust it yet with about 275 rounds through it. Too bad as it is incredibly quick and accurate for a featherweight shorty.

Have a Vaquero in 45 Colt that I wouldn't mind getting a .45 ACP cylinder for, and a .45 convertible Ruger that is one great shooter.

As I posted earlier, this gun is awesome as a plinker or home defense. Most have never seen nor heard of this gun. But I guarantee, if you shoot one, you WILL want one!

My SIG 220 with night sights is no hot rod gun, but it will outshoot any comparable 1911 that I could put up against it. I have S&W wheelgun blood running through my veins, but the 220 and pair of 228s are three of the finest pistols I have ever owned. They are virtually indestructible. As a matter of fact, the 228s made it through two Thunder Ranch week-long classes without a single stumble ... that's 3,000 + rounds fired flawlessly. The 220 is considerably more reliable than a 1911 as well (I'm talking stock, in the same price range), so I'd keep it over a 1911 if need be.

Really been thinking about an FN 45.

It is what I believe the future of semi-autos for military may be.

Most of the shooters that I know are not familiar with the S&W 945. In my experience, it out shoots (for accuracy) any of my Colt, Kimber or other <$2,000 1911 automatics.

S&W 625-2. With any decent load it will shoot 10 rings or smaller groups routinely. It has a superlative DA and SA trigger. The sights are typical S&W... outstanding. If you don't like the grip, there are a plethora of alternative choices available. Handling qualities are superb. Resale value... should that ever be a issue... is high.

I don't recall seeing a P220 that did not shoot lead just as well as my Colt 1911s, including semi-wadcutters.

I wasn't aware such an anomaly existed....did Colt come out with a 45 acp auto in another platform?

Any one of these will get the job done - large, medium or small.

Why the S&W 1911 of course, since purists don't consider it a true 1911 because of the external extractor.

I don't know about it being the best but my favorite non-1911 .45 auto is the old Colt 1905 model I inherited from my uncle. Other than that one, I prefer my 625 model of 1988.

Definitely fun to play with... sorta hard to find a decent holster though.

Carried a personal 4566 for years as my duty gun before the Sheriff mandated that everyone would carry the issued Glock 21.

SIG P220 or CZ97 .

If I had to roll out of bed and pick up a NIB .45 to defend myownself it would be a Sig P220.

I find the SIG P220 or P245 to be the best for me. Dead on balls accurate. I shoot them very well. I have as much confidence shooting them as I do my model 66 or model 19 revolvers. That says a lot in my book.

The 645 may not be the best non 1911 .45 made but it rates right up there. The 625 isn't too shabby either...

HK USP .45 for me.


Mine's been in the family for 20 years now, never given me any problems and eats anything you feed it.

DA Trigger sucks, but all HK Triggers suck.

My HK45 hands down. Never an issue with fit or function.

2nd in line: HK USP .45. Always at the ready for home defense.

Love my Springfield XDS .45. More than 1000 rounds through it with not a single issue. Extremely compact for easy edc and very accurate. I had a titanium slide finish put on it along with TruGlo TFO night sights.

I like my 3 1911s but cant beat my 625 or my glock 21 or my glock 30.

Take a look at the Kahr CW45 - it doesn't seem to have any of those problems. And they are less spendy (< $400) than almost any serious 45acp pistol.
