Springfield XDm in .45

It shoots like a dream. I can shoot 2" groups at 25 yards easily. It feels very nice in the hand (same angle as a 1911) and runs great. Oh, and it holds 13+1 capacity, has 3 different backstraps for adjustment, and comes with a bunch of other extras.

S&W 1917. Just shoot one and you'll know why.

I think a size an price criteria ought to be part of the question.....JMO.

For the money/CCW Kahr CW45 Light, affordable, accurate

Overall HK USP built like a tank, dependable, mega accurate, the Rolex of 45's

Smith & Wesson 4506-1. 3lbs of stainless steel goodness. Dead on accurate, utterly reliable and it recoils like your shooting corks out of an air gun. Like I said in another post, it's the pump shotgun of .45acp autos.

I kinda like the Glock 36 - can't really say why...it just shoots where I think. Course my Double Eagle Commander and my S&W 1917 are fine, too. My son took my Sig 220, so it doesn't count any more.

The best non-1911 are the S&W Third Generations in .45 ACP. These guns were built to shoot, accurately and without fail. My favorite big bore after the 1911.

I'll go with my grandfather-in-law's WWI issue S&W 1917.

I do like my carry Glock 36! But I gotta vote for a 15+1 shot .45 with a good feel, the FN Tactical .45, candidate for the (maybe) military trials to select another sidearm.

When SpecOps guys aren't shooting 1911's, they are shooting Sigs and Glocks. I would go with what the pro's use. Revolvers are a different story though....gotta be a 25 or 625.

Default SW99

Howdy,
Great question.
I recently flogged a SW99 and I was impressed.
4506/645, F.N. and the Glock 21 are hard to beat but if I had to pick out of anything out there I'd probably snatch up a SW99 and feel well armed.
Thanks
Mike

In a non-1911 .45acp, I`d have to go with the Sig 220.
Reliable, accurate, well made, and points well.
Trigger sucks compared to a single action 1911, but all DA/SA have crummy triggers compared to a good single action. Just the nature of the beast.

My Sig P220 is my "Go-to" gun for a non-1911. The gun is flawless.

Eaa Witness Match.

Excellent SA trigger. Well built. Not much recoil. Accurate and fun to shoot.

Sir, FWIW, I have yet to find a non-1911 .45 automatic that suits me. Most have too great a trigger reach, too great a girth, too high a bore line, lousy trigger, or (usually) some combination of these.

Hope this helps, and Semper Fi.

I love my SIGs but here's an overlooked, underrated and incredibly competent firearm - the CZ 97 B. Anyone who's shot one knows what I'm talking about. So nice.

I have a Sig P220 and a P245. The smaller P245 get the nod for best non 1911 in my opinion. It works for me. Although no longer produced it can still be had as the P220 compact and it accepts larger capacity P220 magazines. It is 100% dependable and shoots like a dream.

I love my 1911s, currently carry one on duty, but I'm stepping into the modern age and am transitioning to a new FNP-45 Tactical for duty carry and home defense. Same grip angle as the 1911, 15+1 capacity, DA/SA or cocked and locked carry, trigger guard large enough for a gloved finger, supressor ready w/tall Trijicon night sights, milled from the factory for a Trijicon RMR red dot, and it weighs less loaded than my Springfield duty gun. If guns could evolve, this is what the 1911 would have become-

The hands down nicest/best .45acp wheelgun I've ever handled is this Austin Behlert 25-2. It's perfect-

The very best non-1911 .45 ACP handgun I've ever owned is a S&W 625-2. This included any other .45 ACP handgun I've ever used... from single-action revolvers to automatics. The 625 is more accurate and much more flexible in the loads it will handle. In addition it is more user-friendly that any other handgun design I've ever used. This is of course just my opinion. And we all know what they say about opinions... and noses. But, it is my opinion based in my own experience. Sincerely. brucev.

My vote for semi-auto pistol is the SIG P-220. Good ergonomics, DA/SA, decocker and super easy to shoot very well.

My vote for all around .45ACP platform is the S&W 625. It and my 22-4 TR quickly became my two favorite large bore handguns.

I really like the Sig p220...and yes, I did swipe it from my dad I had a p220 prior, but sold it off to buy a Model 58 (no apologies for that).

I have owned a 625, but never shot it...I'm sure that it is a fine one too. My dad just got a 1917 last weekend, so I'm sure that I will get to try it out some day soon.

Kahr CW45 pistol
Also had a SIG 220, good pistol, but it went on trade for an early para/colt.
In revolvers, either of the 1917s.

Gonna have to go with the P220. Carried other Sig models at work, and just like those, the P220 is a tank.

M&P .45 and for a wheel gun a Model 25 no dash with target grips. Both shoot like a dream.

For the 25 I use auto rim cases and load a 230 FMJRN to 750 fps. Low recoil out of the big N frame and accurate as all get out.

I have 2 that I really like.

S&W M&P, Sig P220, and HK USP. I get the same size groups out of either.

I have a Vaquero with the .45 Colt and .45 ACP cylinders. I rarely shoot the .45 ACP.

I have one 1911, and a half-dozen other 45's. The one that gets carried the most lately is this one-off EAA Witness, converted to single-action and fitted with a coned barrel. It's a good mate for my Witness Match, the most accurate 45 I've ever seen.

This Bersa UC 45 (Ultra Compact) two-tone is a favorite for CCW, despite it's long DA trigger. It holds eight and is barely bigger than the .380 it replaced.

Bought strictly for Winter carry, this early FNP 45 (no safety, decocker only) holds lots of ammo and shoots VERY well. It thrives on the hottest ammo, so that's what I feed it. It pounds steel plates like the Hammer of Thor!

I'm a big fan of my S&W 945's accuracy and for times when I want a few more rounds it's hard to beat the Glock 21SF, however, when I want both accuracy and 30 round capacity, my Kriss pistol is the best.

Dang, I thought I'd be the first to be a smart alec and say the best non-1911 pistol is a S&W REVOLVER.

Frankly, I like 'em BETTER that any good 1911 I've ever owned!!!

Unless I've been drinkin' hard and long (coffee that is), they'll put a cylinder into one ragged hole at 10 yards every time, and roll coke cans with boring regularity too at 75 yards.

I'm most partial of my chopped barrel, 1980-made 25-2 . . . don't need a long barrel on this one!!!

Rather partial to both the SIG P220 and Smith 645 for non-1911s.
As for a sixgun, Colt New Service! Dale

To shoot, if I can't have a 1911, I like the S&W 4506. I consider it about the mildest .45 going, in the recoil department. But it is a bear to lug around, and for that purpose, I'd prefer a P220.

it's a tie. Sig P220 (IF you can shoot it well. I can't) and S&W 4566.

If buying one now without any baggage from mags and gear already owned, I am pretty sure it would be an M&P. I've seen some results from 5000+ round testing (in a week or so, as I recall) that were just outstanding. With the work that is being done to set them up with the Aimpoint T-1, this will be a great combination.

Cool looking gun and great sight..I shot a .45 with one of those on it...better than a laser...
