Default .22 Rifle Scopes

I just acquired a new Remington Model 572 .22 pump rifle. Won it in a raffle. I had not planed on putting a scope on it. But the comb is so high, it makes the iron sights very hard to see. I called Remington, and talked to a very nice lady. She told me that they would sell me a new stock with a lower comb for $200.00. I figure I might just as well put a scope on it. I have some .22 rifles with iron sights, but only one with a scope. The scope is probably 30 years old and I don"t shoot it much. So I am curious if any one has much experience with current .22 rifle scopes. I am not interested in spending a lot of money, but I don't want to buy junk either. I will probably only take this rifle to the range occasionally, and shoot it at 50 or 100 yards. Thanks for any advice.

Tasco has improved their scopes tremendously, plus Bushnell is making some rimfire scopes that are nice, I also have a newer Simmons on an 17hmr Savage that works real well. My favorite has to be the Tasco I have on a Marlin Model 60 though. I was trying to stay in the inexpensive range. Any top tier Scope company makes an excellent scope, its just the price that I steer away from on a .22

Most of the big scope companies produce models specific to the needs of rimfire shooters. Parallax set to 50 yards instead of 100 yards. You still want a 1" tube and a clear, bright image, as you will still be using the same eyeball you shoot with as on your cernterfire rifles. You want a good quality scope because you will shoot a lot more rounds with it than you will fire from your centerfires.

Natchezss has good deals on Nikon's ProStaff 4x32 Rimfire Classic with NikoPlex Reticle. It runs $109.95 NIB or $69.95 refurbished. I have a refurbished one, and it appears pristine except for a tiny mark on the tube. It works fine.

They also have Burris rimfire scopes, but they are higher.

I got one of these about a month ago. Very nice, high quality, and bright. I got mine off Amazon for less than $100 and free shipping.

I have a Weaver T36 on an Anschutz, a Mueller APV 4.5-14 on my CZ, and a Nikon 4X32 on my Ruger 77/22. I just punch holes in paper and I like the higher power scopes. It mostly depends on how you want to use the rifle. Don

I put a Bushnell 3x9 .22 scope on my 10-22. 29 bucks at our local discount store. Works for me.

I must agree with Smith357. Here's the variable mounted on a 552 which is very similar to your pump. Optically fine and the adjustments are precise. Makes a very nice package.

Ron, that looks a lot like my pump. Did you try to shoot it with iron sights? Do you see what I am saying about the comb being too high for the iron sights? Did you have to take the rear sight off to make the scope work? Thanks, Waldo.

I just picked up a Barska 3x9-40 at Walmart, ordered it ship to store, cost me a whopping $26. Look at their online stuff, lots more than you'll find in the store.

I bought a Tasco 2x-7x variable air rifle scope for a Ruger 77/22 some years back. i've read where the air rifle scopes are actually more resilient and heavy duty than rimfire labeled scopes due to the odd back and forth jarring recoil of some air rifles.

It's been problem free and the lower 2x setting has seen the most use. 2x is great for picking up running targets. From experience, I wouldn't go too high on the lower setting of a variable power scope for rimfires. Maybe 3x tops.

Waldo,
yes I had to remove the rear sights due to the low rings I used.Your complaint is a common one, that stock ain't well designed for irons. Works great with the scope though. Good luck.
