Default Kimber Solo, Buy It YES or NO

My friend just called me offering to sell me his three month old Kimber Solo. He is selling it to buy the new Solo CDP version.

The pistol is as new in the box at a VERY good price.

Thoughts from those with experience with this mini 9mm?

A shooting buddy has one and I shot it at the range and I thought it was sweet. He says the only problem with it is it is very ammo picky, even Kimber has a list of recommended ammo to use with it.

I don't have any experience with one but if I could get one at a "VERY" good price I'd grab it.

I need one of these like I need a hole in the head. But over the years I have passed up some good deals and later thought back and regretted it.

These little nines are the hot item lately. I guess I should grab it. The price is very good, so I really can't go wrong.

I just don't know much about this new Kimber. I hope they are reliable.

Thanks for the comments.

Buying a gun for carry/use is a personal thing - if you are thinking of buying to flip it...that's a different deal.

Whatever seems right to you is what you should do...I would pass, but I'm not looking for something like that. If I wanted something like that - I think there are other models by different mfg's. that I would look hard at first.

I doubt that I have helped you here - you need to decide what works for you.

All the best.

Pete

I'd take it and see if you like it. Nothing wrong with a 9mm and you'd be helping out a buddy.

Had one if the first Solos. At 750 rounds it was worn out. Kimber replaced it. The slide and barrel were peening metal, the nortch of the slide wore so much that it wouldn't lock back; then the magazine fell apart.
Then there was the ammunition. Kimber's approved list once had on the order of 20 brands and loads. It's now been radically reduced.
Yes I got seduced by the gun. Yes Kimber did give quality service. Maybe after a year they've worked out the bugs. However...

Solos are like unicorns around these parts. I would like to see one in person.

I'm probably going to pick it up as I'm getting it below cost. Plus, around here, the stores are selling them above MSRP, that's IF you can find one.

It will be a good investment. If I am dissatisfied with it, I'm sure I can “turn” it pretty fast.

I'm wanting to see the new SIG P938 when it arrives. I'm a SIG guy from way back.

Thanks for your honest responses. Never hurts to check around for some counsel and advise before buying an unfamiliar gun.
