Default 1911 70 Series Sights

Not sure where else to ask, so......

I would like a low profile, adjustable rear and a narrow, staked front sight for a mid seventies 70 Series. It currently sports an extremely sharp, razor sharp, tall, adjustable rear and about a quarter inch tall, sharp front sight.

I need smoother, lower profile sights! I do not like to bleed.....

Just plain black is fine, gold bead front would be even better.

Where do I look? What brand/model? What front sight height?

I do not want to mill the slide. I think the rear slot is factory.

Any help?

Thanks.

Take a look at Novak sights. I have a low mount fixed set on my early 70s, 70 series 1911 and find they are good looking on the pistol but very functional as well. Novak makes the same low mount sight in an adjustable version.

Do Novaks require the slide to be milled?

I have these sights on my Series 70. The front is a MGW improved front sight and the rear is a Harrison 1911 Retro rear sight. Both are available at Brownell's; total cost for both is about $50.

Thank you, safearm.

Do you know of an adjustable that fits the factory dovetail and low profile enough to use with a short front sight like yours?

Look at these rear sights:
REAR SIGHTS - Brownells
According to the description, they require no alteration of the slide.

Thanks, safearm.

Those look good. Their reviews are not stellar but may be worth a try. I may have to ask brownells for an educated gues at what height front sight for those rears.....

I really want a gold bead front but only seem to find dovetails. Plain black is fine, though.

WILDPIG,
I didn't read the reviews before posting the link to the sights. You're right, the reviews are mixed, some hate them and some think they're great. I think the one from the owner who used them on a .45ACP might be right; they might be too delicate for the recoil.
Good luck,
