Default Trouble shooting computer, with a shotgun

Ever wanted to take your computer out and just shoot it?
I had one that was giving me fits, so I did a little computer troubleshooting on it with an 870 Wingmaster and a MAK-90.

Got a new video camera a while back, and I got the whole thing on video.

Looks a lot like my Whirlpool drier *** did after it broke down for the 200th time in 2 years. Only your pieces are bigger.

The only more liberating experience I could possible think of would be doing the exact same thing to my cell phone. I just KNOW I could make it fine without this damned thing.

Life is short. It's a good thing you used a Wingmaster instead of an express.

It's a good think you took the critter down, I saw it sneaking up on you.
I have an older Dodge Caravan I would love to do the same too, but can't afford a replacement right now.

Talking Revenge is Sweet

I have not had computer problems, Electrical Circuits for Mechanical Engineers was an agonizing experience. I took 3 semesters to complete a 2 semester course. Saturday after the final exam, I took the Ruger Super Blackhawk, 100 rounds of stout 44 magnum reloads, and the Book.

Twelve rounds would have been enough, but 12 more ensured that not even the confetti would escape death. Payback is good .

Engineer1911, you are not alone. I have known several law clerks who, upon receiving notice that they had passed the bar, borrowed my Krag or a 94 Winchester and used it on their copy of Prosser.

I can sympathize with you. Your post makes me think of a picture I once saw of Daffy Duck with a old style heavy wooden mallet such as were once used to drive stakes, etc. He is swinging it so hard that his feet have come off the ground. He is about to adjust a computer. The caption says, "Compute this!"

Talking

Mike, to answer your question; Yes.

When Connor was 5-years-old our existing computer crashed. Connor wasn't able to comprehend this, so I explained to him that the computer had "died" and that we would have to purchase a new one. Being a 5-year-old, he wanted to know why it "died" and should we bury it. And so . . . an autopsy was performed. During the autopsy I described the hard drive as the "heart" of the computer. Connor was concerned that if a computers' heart was anything like a vampires, we would have to make sure that it was REALLY dead and buried seperately. (Gotta love the imagination of a 5-year old!) It was also decided that since the "heart" was too solid to drive a stake thru, that one of "Grandpa's big guns" would be sufficient for the task.

And so . . . what was left of the CPU was relegated to the recycling bin and the hard drive was taken to the pasture. Satisfied that a single round of .357 had properly dispatched the "heart" it was now time for a proper burial and a location where we could come back and visit was located.

As this was the first computer that Connor had ever used, it was a solemn ceremony. Connor dug the hole, placed the "heart" and spent shell casing carefully at the bottom, stepped back and asked Grandpa if he "would like to say a few words." (This was the point where it was all Grandpa could do to retain his composure and not laugh out loud!) Connor had come up with the inscription for the cross and helped with its' assembly.

Note: If you look at the base of the cross, you will notice a small stake and piece of clear tubing. One year from the date of burial, we would return, tap on the stake and listen for a return tap with the tubing. If, after one year, there was no return tap, then we would know that like a vampires' heart . . . it was truly dead. Again . . . from the imagination of a 5-year-old.

You have the perfect cure for a computer virus -- eliminate the host.

Just for fun, you could send it to Tech Support, tell them it had a "worm" that bored all kinds of holes in it and ask them if they can fix it and eliminate the worm.

Nice work.

I did the same thing to mine a couple years ago. (No pictures, I'm not a camera guy)

I keep a Mossberg 590 9 shot 12 gauge, handy for things that go bump in the night. I load it with 6 00 buck then 3 slugs.

I like to shoot out the old ammo every few months and replace with new and by chance my old computer died at that time.

My knowledge of computers stops with pushing on the start button and I have a lot of things I really do not want to get out. Took the computer and Mossberg out in back to my range and at about 50' emptied the gun into computer. Things got quite torn up and looked like nothing useable. Took a shovel picked up the junk and put in heavy plastic bag and thence into the trash can.

Got rid of old ammo and old computer, made it a very nice day!

I've thought of shooting an old hard drive, just to avoid having it fall into the wrong hands if I throw it in the trash. It has some private and family info that I don't want strangers to access.

What's the ricochet potential if i slam it with a few .357 rounds? Do I need to place it a hundred yards downrange and clobber it with a .270?

Finallly, did you use buckshot in the Wingmaster? Finer shot might not penetrate and would come back at you.

glad i'm not the only person who has done this. i used a 9mm with fmj ammo for the penetration factor. also used a 5lb hammer to adjust another one. worked real well, never needed another adjustment after that first one.

Gave the same treatment to a Microsoft laptop that quit after 18 months and a Verizon cell phone. Shot the guts out of both ... I was tempted to send the laptop back to Microsoft and share my thoughts on their products.
